This Year's Model Updates:

The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. In terms of new standard features, there's now an auxiliary audio jack for portable devices and power seating for the Sport and SR5 V8, and a seat memory feature and a six-disc CD changer for the Limited.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, well-mannered on pavement, above-average off-road capability, comfortable and well-trimmed cabin, long list of standard equipment.

  • Great All Around - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I traded in my BMW 3series for this 4runner because I was moving up to the high mountains, Breckenridge Colorado. It handles amazingly in the snow, even with 2 wheel drive, and have never been nervous about my safety. Can fit 5 people comfortably, even with their winter layers on. Nice to have the rack already on top, just attach a board-rack and youre ready to hit the slopes. Does great on the highways here, which are constantly winding, the huge breaks are a plus.

  • I love it! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I love the way my new ride looks (the color I chose is Driftwood Pearl w/cloth tannish interior), the way it handles and the features. I wish it had more get up and go but I did get the V6 so... I really enjoy it and would highly recommend at least a test drive - that is all it will take. I love the controls for back window and the double decker system and cargo net for organizing groceries, luggage, etc. I also love the ease of the hatch opening, closing gently then the automatic "lock" so I dont have to slam close.

  • 2006 SR5 after 3 weeks - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I like the following: V6 power & the smooth trans, moonroof, rear window goes down and the solid feel and the quality finish. The ride is smooth, esp. for a truck. The diagonal bounce of normal suvs is almost completely absent. Love the headlights and tail lights that are normally found on the highend luxury cars. Dislikes: there are some things that I totally dislike and didnt take me long to notice as follows: the placement of the window switches, power outlet and the auxillary jack are in a bad locations, the seats get hard after a short time, the base stereo is just that, 3rd row seats are tiny and lots of blind spots. finally, when exiting vehicle my pants get dirty on running boards.

  • Cant Get Better Than This - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I have had this vehicle for three years and, at 80K plus miles, I have not had a single mechanical malfunction. It drives great and has great roadability. It is easy to maneuver, even in small/tight spaces. The driver sits high and this provides great overall vision of your surroundings. In regards to quality, cant beat Toyotas quality or dependability.

  • After 3 Years - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Last post was 9/6/2006. Nothing has changed except the gas mileage has improved from 19.5 to 21 mpg combined. Absolutely zero defects after 3 years and 36K miles. Best of all, my wife still loves it. It is the best vehicle, new or used that I have owned during the past 43 years. Wife wished we had bought leather with heated seats but the cloth is great. Handled great on snow and ice the past 2 winters. Plenty of power, great handling, and visibility. Still looks like new.

  • Like riding on air - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I have been more than pleased with the comfortable ride provided by my 4Runner. This is by far the most comfortable ride I have experienced from any vehicle I have ever owned. The brakes are a bit nimble, but other than that the vehicle is like riding on air. There is very little noise from exterior extremities, with the exception of a heavy rain. Very little noise, and handles potholes better than I expected.

  • Love my 06 Sport - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

I traded my 01 Limited on an 06 Sport with the 4.0 liter. What a difference! Im missing the leather a bit, but the tradeoff in power and comfort is well worth the difference. I pull a 15ft enclosed trailer with two atvs in it with no problem. I was worried I should have gotten the V8, but Im very happy I went with the 6 cylinder. Gas mileage in mixed driving has been around 20-21mpg. Insurance was dirt cheap. My 06 was actually cheaper to insure than my 01! This is an excellent SUV!

  • Awesome 4x4 and towing vehicle - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Ive taken the car everywhere. From my first 2000 miles where I towed from TX to ID, to me taking it off-road or driving in some serious snow, this vehicle has done it all for me. And everything without a single problem

  • Pleasant Compromise - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Overall quality of 4Runner is great. After 1K miles, gas mileage with mixed driving, mostly side roads is 19.5 to 20.2 MPG. Gas mileage on road trip, mostly turnpike, averaging 75 to 80 mph, was 19.2 MPG. Ride is smooth but has a slight truck bounce when driving over concrete washboard sections of highway. Visibility great. Hauled an interior 80" door in the cargo area. Have 72" or so clearance in cargo area after folding 2nd row seats flat.

  • Love for life - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

So far, so good!! This is the most comfortable SUV I have ever been in. I love the ride. It doesnt feel like a truck anymore. I take mine off- roading, on the highway, and grocery- grabbing. The rear window roll down access is great. When I out of the store with a couple of bags of groceries, I hit the key fob button to drop the window, walk up, and deposit the bags into the back without setting the bags down to open a door!! As far as I am aware, this is the only SUV to have this. The rest flip up, etc.
