The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. • Absolutely Love It! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I love everything about it. Drive is smooth, good acceleration, quiet ride, roomy interior, good gas mileage (averaging 21 mpg), looks great, tons of standard features. You name it, I love it! I feel like its worth every penny and then some after driving it 2500 miles. No buyers regret here.

  • Warning bad exhaust manifolds - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Warning just having my vehicle serviced not under warranty with 55,000 miles on it for. Get ready cracked exhaust manifolds. That s right these ex manifolds have the catalytic converter apparently built inside them. Both sides cracked cost $3500.00 U.S. What? You must ber kidding me. In 40 years of owning every type of car imaginable. Never have I needed to replace these items. 3500 dollars 9 hours of labor and the parts. This is total crap. Where is the quality. They apparently did another one a 2005 last week or two with exactly the same nonsense. Toyota. Hello how about a total recall for this major defect

Traded in 1994 Honda Accord w/185K on it for first SUV. Other vehicle is 1998 van. Wanted a true SUV for the trek to a second home in the Whilte Mountains of NH v. crossover. Also, wanted something reliable similar to the Accord. Plan to keep this vehicle for 10-12 years. Alway have felt safe in this truck no matter what kind of weather, snow, rain, etc. 35k in 15 months and love this SUV. We are a family of four and it is a bit small in the passenger area, but you can load it to the top for a weekend or weeks vacation. No 3rd row as it was useless. If you need a people hauler, best to opt for a bigger SUV or van.

Bought with 73k.great vehicle to haul the kids around.I chose the V8 due to its power. The gas mileage with a V6 was just 2mpg less.Go with the V8.Drove from Las Vegas to San Francisco, what an awesome ride.Eats up potholes.I liked the 4runner so much, I bought my wife a 2007 4runner sport.

  • Great with One Caveat - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Our 05 4Runner has been pretty much as advertised. Its extremely well built inside and out, has a smooth and quiet ride, and the V8 powers the truck effortlessly. My one beef is that it has a steady vibration in the steering wheel from the drive train... not a shimmy or the road... you can feel the vibration when accelerating and in overdrive. I dont think all 4Runners have it... be on the lookout for it when you test drive.

Only thing I have replaced is battery a couple of times and just recently the alternator.

  • Lousy Transmission - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

I bought this truck after having a 2002 GMC Envoy. Since I bought this truck, Ive noticed the vehicle shifts up or down harshly and at the wrong speeds. When the ac is on, the idle is so high that the truck seems to drive itself. Coming off the highway, the car lurches forward when youre merging onto a new road. Very disappointing and cant wait to get rid of it.

  • Greater Than I Imagined - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Read all your reviews before I purchased and they helped a lot. Once I bought the vehicle and actually got behind the wheel as an owner and then discovered what it can do, Im so happy. I wanted the v6 for the gas mileage thing, but got the v8 full-time 4wd edition and here are the real world stats... On the highway and 65 mph and under, 25-27.7 mpg. Yes, really. Was going to get a Lexus GX-470 (built on the same platform as the 4Runner and at the same factory in Tahara, Japan), but decided on the 2006 4Runner instead. Whisper quiet. Not as fancy of an interior as the Lexus, but all the important elements, performance and reliability are the same. What a great car.

  • Cant Go Wrong - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

This is my 3rd SUV (ford bronco II and GMC Jimmy). The 4Runner is by far more reliable, better looking, and able to do more real 4 wheeling than my previous mistakes. The only mistake Toyota made is a single power outlet in the front cabin, but a minor inconvenience compared with the problems on my last two. You will enjoy no rattles, great highway mileage with the V6 (22 MPG with K&N installed) and not a single problem in 14 months of use.

  • 2006 SR5 4WD 6 Cyl - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

Purchased vehicle at end of 2005. Im 62" and I have the sunroof. At first the I thought that there wasnt enough headroom, but there is. Anyone slightly taller ought to consider no sunroof. The 6 cyl deliver more than sufficient power for most needs. The vehicle is quiet to drive and responsive. I used to drive a Subaru AWD that weighs 800 pounds less, but I only got 18-20 MPG City. The 4 runner is delivering 17 MPG so far during the break in period. The engine revs low and upshifts quickly to keep revs low and mileage high.
