Overview & Reviews
The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. In terms of new standard features, there's now an auxiliary audio jack for portable devices and power seating for the Sport and SR5 V8, and a seat memory feature and a six-disc CD changer for the Limited.
- Powerful engine lineup, well-mannered on pavement, above-average off-road capability, comfortable and well-trimmed cabin, long list of standard equipment.

New Impression for an Old Friend - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
By pain-doc - October 7 - 1:20 amHaving a short attention span, I have been through a number of SUVs including a 02 Pathfinder, 03 Sequoia, 02 BMW X5 V8, 02 4Runner, 04 CR-V to name a few. This 06 seems to be the best mix for the price. My primary gripes are headroom on ingress, climate control knobs/buttons, and lack of dark interior option. If I could have had a scaled-down Sequoia, that would have been perfect. The V8 in this intermediate is a true luxury. I love the throttle response. Many complain that it is too responsive, but being primarily a sports car guy, it is a welcome attribute. I wanted a masculine SUV that had a livable nature and that is what I got.

Awesome - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
By roscoe - June 10 - 8:23 amThis truck is absolutely amazing! Ive wanted a 4runner for a while, and I def dont regret this purchase. Ive put about 30,000 miles on it (55k total miles) and zero, zip, no complaints. The x- reas suspension on the sport edition makes it handle and take corners like a dream! Super quiet inside, almost zero road/wind noise. 200% quieter than the competing models. Zero mech problems and the v6 has plenty of power. This is my daily driver and also has been on many camping/fishing/snowboarding trips and has yet to meet an obstacle it cant overcome.

Logical choice - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
By JCM - May 29 - 2:50 amMy 2005 Limited V8 is the first SUV Ive owned and the X-REAS suspension and V8 have eased the transition. X- REAS (option for Ltd) "flattens" the vehicle on turns with any kind of speed and reduces lean/roll. My 4Runner is more nimble than I imagined it would be and the turning radius is quite manageable. The V8 has a snarl when the gearing allows it to stay above 2,000 RPM... passing is a joy. You will get pushed into the seat if you floor it (after 1,000 mi break-in!). The interior is firm, but not plush and the dash, etc. is top notch. However, be careful cleaning the clear plastic--it will scratch easily. If you leave the gate window open, you will smell exhaust. MPG? Feh.

Best car I ever owned! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
By lczep - April 12 - 4:42 amI had gone through 2 Ford Explorers. My last being a 2005 Eddie Bauer. Both never saw 40,000 miles before I began putting large amounts of money into them. In February of 2009, I purchased my 4Runner with 52,000 miles on it. Just opening and closing the doors, you could hear and feel the difference in the quality of this car vs. Ford. The gas mileage is almost double what I got with the Ford. It handles beautifully in the snow. Its a little more work to get it into 4 wheel drive, but worth the effort! It handles beautifully on the highway, and is just a fun car to drive. I will own this car until it falls apart...I have the feeling Ill fall apart before this car does!

Excellent Truck - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
By Robert - March 20 - 12:43 amAfter searching for 4 months, I just bought a very low mileage 4 Runner with every option included. It is seriously amazing. I had a 2000 4Runner and got rid of it and got a 2004 Land Rover Discovery. This was a big mistake and Im glad to be back inside a Toyota 4Runner. The driving performance is incredible as it drives like a sports car and handles like a truck. The reliability of a Toyota is first cast and the maintenance is much cheaper than a Land Rover, BMW, etc.

One Great Truck! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
By ryanmb21 - February 2 - 4:33 amTwo weeks after buying this 4runner I installed a 3 inch lift and 32" tires the resulting stance is much improved over stocks low nose. I will comment that these trucks are perfect for lifting 2-3 inches as the CV angles up front are in a squatted position. 50K miles later including several off-road trips and snowy jaunts to the mountains this 4runner continues to impress! I love it! All I do is oil changes and never had a problem, 100% recommend!
