This Year's Model Updates:

The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. In terms of new standard features, there's now an auxiliary audio jack for portable devices and power seating for the Sport and SR5 V8, and a seat memory feature and a six-disc CD changer for the Limited.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, well-mannered on pavement, above-average off-road capability, comfortable and well-trimmed cabin, long list of standard equipment.

Best all around SUV I have ever driven. The exterior is very stylish and sporty, the interior is well laid out (once you get used to the strange HVAC controls), and the seats are very comfortable. Plenty of space in the cargo area as well as with the seats folded down. Fuel economy is decent for an SUV of its size. V6 is more than enough for a punchy, fun drive.

Just bought the car. Nice ride. Avg about 20.1 (set cruise @65.00 sharp). Combined driving gets about 18.2 MPG. Computer updates the MPG every 10 sec. Very smooth. Quiet interior. The power seats are nice. Wish side airbags come standard. No body lean around the curve at 40~45 MPH. Drove thru a heavy rain storm and can feel the traction control sets in right away. A lot of room when rear seats folded down. Storage areas throughout the car make it really neat.

Never have been a material person, but I love this car! I was looking at crossovers and wagons for MPG, and handling, but forgot it all when I test drove this Toyota. The MPG is typical though. But the handling is smooth and if you like bigger cars, as fun as any sports car you can get. I took it off road for fun, and as inexperienced as I am, I thought I pushed it too far at one point, but... put in the low gear, and I was out of a muddy, five-feet-deep river bed. Also, for everyday, the cargo shelf in the back is great when you want to hide some things and still be able to load via the window.

It came down to the new Pathfinder or the 4Runner. The Pathfinder is a great ride,V-8 acceleration from a V-6, comfortable interior. But the Toyota seemed to be better built, with higher quality interior materials and a smoother highway ride. The 4Runner also feels lighter and more nimble on pavement thanks in part to the X-REAS suspension which all but eliminates the body roll and pitch that plague a lot of SUVs.

Love the truck. Have had it about a year with no complaints.

Toyota has done it again!! The 4 runner handles well with little to no engine noise. At 63" I was little apprehensive about how the 4 runner would accomodate my big frame; but I have no complaints. Towing is awesome. With a 15 foot boat in tow, I felt like I never lost control; nor did my brakes fail or burn.

We have 2 little ones, so we traded in a very nice 2003 TL S-type for the sport 4 runner. My wife was tired of bending over to load kids. We are very happy with the choice. Although not nearly as loaded as our old ride, the 4runner handles very well for a truck based suv. It feels light to drive. I actually like the cloth seats better than leather, and the exterior of the sport edition is just plain cool looking. Much better gas milage than I expected. Engine power is adequate and a good mix of power & economy. Plan on making this "the truck" and trading in my pickup for something a little better on gas. Plan on keeping this a while...

Ive always loved the 4Runners from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations. Though, Ive never owned one because I was always devoted to the Supras. Then, the 4th generation of the 4Runner came out in 2003, I knew it then, this is going to be my first SUV. Its rugged looks and more macho looking body compared to its previous generations got me. This year 2006, I started shopping for the right 4Runner style of my choice - the Sports Edition. Bought it in March 2006, drove it to California in July for his break in period, and my 4Runner performed flawlessly. Handling, comfort and the turn ratio are awesome. Toyota fulfills another expectation for me, a hundred thousands of miles of fun ahead.

Nice touches giving driver and passengers comfort and reliability. Very solid ride, turning, acceleration and on-spot braking. A/C cooly handles 100+ days here in Dallas! From Mercedes to the 4 Runner... yeah, I did it; and no regrets!
