This Year's Model Updates:

The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. In terms of new standard features, there's now an auxiliary audio jack for portable devices and power seating for the Sport and SR5 V8, and a seat memory feature and a six-disc CD changer for the Limited.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, well-mannered on pavement, above-average off-road capability, comfortable and well-trimmed cabin, long list of standard equipment.

  • I love it! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

Although Ive only own this SUV for 4 months, I must say this is probably the best SUV Ive owned so far. (Ive had a 95 Jeep Grand and 07 Honda Element.) I originally thought the XREAS suspension was some hokey-pokey nonsense but after driving my friends 05 SR5. WOW, what a difference. this thing has plenty of power, the interior is almost as quiet as my sisters 08 RX350, I love the black interior, the power seats are comfortable. I can go on raving about this SUV for hours but Ill just keep it short. Bottom line, go drive one and experience this great SUV for yourself!

  • Great truck, must maintain w/Toyota - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I have owned my 06 Sport 4x4 V8 for 2.5 years. I bought it with 147,000 miles from a Toyota dealer. The reason I was convinced to buy this vehicle was because it had been maintained by Toyota since new. Since I bought it I have spend $3500 maintaining it (cataylytic converter, timing belt, water pump, axle, brakes, etc.) That is all in addition to the regular scheduled maintenance. It looks great and runs like a top. If you want an excellent SUV that is still "trucky" consider this vehicle. Maintain with Toyota and you will have a truck that will run for a lot of miles. I am currently at 182,000 and the steering is still tight. I highly recommend the 4x4 v8. Runs like new still.

  • 2006 SR5 after 3 weeks - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

I like the following: V6 power & the smooth trans, moonroof, rear window goes down and the solid feel and the quality finish. The ride is smooth, esp. for a truck. The diagonal bounce of normal suvs is almost completely absent. Love the headlights and tail lights that are normally found on the highend luxury cars. Dislikes: there are some things that I totally dislike and didnt take me long to notice as follows: the placement of the window switches, power outlet and the auxillary jack are in a bad locations, the seats get hard after a short time, the base stereo is just that, 3rd row seats are tiny and lots of blind spots. finally, when exiting vehicle my pants get dirty on running boards.

  • Warning bad exhaust manifolds - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

Warning just having my vehicle serviced not under warranty with 55,000 miles on it for. Get ready cracked exhaust manifolds. That s right these ex manifolds have the catalytic converter apparently built inside them. Both sides cracked cost $3500.00 U.S. What? You must ber kidding me. In 40 years of owning every type of car imaginable. Never have I needed to replace these items. 3500 dollars 9 hours of labor and the parts. This is total crap. Where is the quality. They apparently did another one a 2005 last week or two with exactly the same nonsense. Toyota. Hello how about a total recall for this major defect

Only thing I have replaced is battery a couple of times and just recently the alternator.

  • A Fantastic Adventure Travel Vehicle! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

We ordered our 4Runner from Japan because we couldnt buy a Sport Edition with GPS navigation off a dealers lot. We also added 4WD. The car rides and handles great. ZERO mech. probs. Powerful V6 with decent economy. You really dont need the V8. The 4WD and off-road stability systems are amazing. I used them in a rare snow & ice storm in the Chisos Mtns in Big Bend National Park and was amazed at this SUVs sure-footedness. A few quibbles: Front cupholders stink. Must contort arms & hands to reach window and door lock switches on doors. Tire pressure and oil change idiot lights are annoying to reset. Overall, though, we LOVE this SUV. Even $4 gas cant persuade us to part with it!

  • Oh What A Feeling - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

I love my 4x4 Limited 4Runner. Its a V6 yes, but much more power than my minivan sienna had so Im happy enough. I have not been this much in love with a vehicle, ever. I still appreciate it and still love driving it after 6 months of ownership. The quality of this vehicle is very high, as well as the value retention. I still want to be driving this vehicle in 10 years and am sure it will still be going strong. The 4Runner V6 has great pickup, gets head-turning looks, and is just plain fun to drive. The Limited has the leather, heated seats, sun roof, dual air stations, the list goes on. My ONE complaint is that there are not enough cup holders in the front seat.

  • Awesome SUV - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Everything you expect from a Toyota, great styling, and the quality is second to none, why spend all the extra $$$ on a Lexus??? The only thing is the gas mileage, however, compared too our friends SUVs its actually good.
