  • Best Looking Mid-Size SUV - 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Love my 4Runner. Hate the gas mileage. Have to say though, I put a lot of miles on a vehicle and this has been, hands down, the absolute easiest to maintain. I have almost 60,000 miles on it and have not yet had to have the brakes replaced - you cant get that with a Honda. My only complaint is the terrible smell when the rear window is even cracked open - Toyota has attempted to correct this problem, but whatever they did only corrected the problem for a week or so.

I like my 4runner a lot. I have had it for 2 months now. It has a soft plush ride and is a little bit sloppy at times. The dials look stupid on the dash. Overall the vehicle is very solid and has a nice interior. The Synthesis JBL sound system is not very good and the fuel economy is a little on the low side. I plan on getting a high performance air filter and a cat back exhaust. But that is down the road.

  • Reliable, comfotable, powerful and great resale - 2004 Toyota 4Runner

I bought my 4runner Sport V8 new in Feb of 04. 8 years and 135K miles later its time to find a new home for it. It has been the most reliable car Ive ever owned in 37 years of driving. Gas mileage is what I expected at about 16/mi overall. I used it to pull a 5K # boat and trailer and never missed beat. Even pulled great through the hills of NH and VT. Ive done all of my own maintenance and found it to be very easy to work on. It still looks and drives great. Cloth interior shows no signs of wear. Only significant problem I had was with the sunroof while it was still under warrantee. Took 3 trips to the dealer and they finally replaced the whole thing.

  • Good Solid Vehicle - 2004 Toyota 4Runner

This was our familys third Toyota and we are pleased with the brand. We bought the V-8 in order to pull our pontoon boat. It is a good solid vehicle that offers a smooth ride. I especially like the remote rear window. I would have liked a third row seat but didnt like the fold-up configuration. I expected worse than average gas mileage since I owned an SUV before this one. However, I have yet to get even the 15mph listed on the sticker for city driving.

Purchased RW drive SR5 09/03 and have driven approx. 17000. This is an exceptionally tight vehicle. Never as much as a slight rattle over very rough roads. Very stylish desing. A lot of second looks from other drivers.

Great looking - too bad doesnt have chrome bumper. Slighest bump scratched body keyed color plastic front bumper. The set up for window & door loct buttons very very poor. Hidden under outside arm rest and lack quality to be able to see them in dark. There is only 1 accessory plug right under your right forearm in center consol. There is a 2d one but its back in cargo area - I also bought a Tundra and it has 3 in consol area and in convenient areas. Finally when the tilt wheel is brought down it obscures the directional signal lite on the dash. With all these poor configurations I still love it.

Very solid well built SUV. The 4.0 engine is very quiet and smooth with plenty of power. Very nice cabin with lots of extras and well thought out.

I have a problem with exhaust fumes getting into the car under heavy excelleration or when towing. All windows up. Both the dealer and Toyota confirmed it and said it is the gas outside of California and the car is performing to its standards and they can not do anything. It smells like rotten eggs. Toyota corporate said too bad but it is my problem. Also dont expect to see the dash guages with sun glasses on.
