4Runner fan - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By sands - October 1 - 10:00 amIve owned 2 4runners; a 98 and an 04. The 04 is really different from the 98. IT is VERY quiet for an SUV, has lots of neat gizmos, is very reliable and just downright looks cool. You cant go wrong with a 4Runner. It has it all; style and substance.

Toyota 4Runner SR5 - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By mmerc - September 13 - 8:40 pmWouldnt you know it, finally can afford a 4Runner and not crazy about new body style. Love mid-90s 4Runners and all previous. This one is cool, but almost ostentatious-looking. Also the gas mileage is really pretty bad; so far just driving in town, hope its better on a road trip. Great Toyota quality seems intact. Rear-seat passengers complained about "too much heat" in back seat in winter, dont know -- a little bulky to turn & park. Also uneasy about "push button" 4WD: prefer old lever style in an emergency which is when you would want it. Still love it overall.

Fun, Fun, Fun - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By Art Henry - July 18 - 2:00 amI too test drove numerous mid-sized SUVs and really liked the "Runner". I also currently own a 2002 Explorer. What a difference between the two. While the Explorer is somewhat bigger, the ride quality is no match for the 4 Runner. The 4 Runner seems lighter, more nimble and just more overall fun to drive. Kudos on the new body style and engine horsepower!

2nd Time Around - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By JMan - April 21 - 10:43 am2nd Generation 4-Runner owner. This one is an upgrade over 2000 model. More interior room, stronger engine with better mileage. Have had 3 problems. Dead battery, bad oxygen sensor and dead radio (after warranty period)-expensive fix. Other than that its been a great vehicle that shows very little signs of wear with no interior noises after 72K. Average 19mph in mixed driving.

Trade in 98 limited for 04 - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By maved - March 12 - 2:00 amI traded in my 1998 4x4 limited for a is great. The ride is definitely more car like for all those 2x4 people. Both my dad and I though still miss the 98-though the ride was lot more truck like. It was easier to know where your tires were at off road especially.Hopefully the new painted bumpers will perform like the old chrome ones thatlooked perfect after alot of rocks and branches flying at them. Overall it is very comfortable and nice driving vehicle which a few small design kinks. The interior material that is used to cover the doors is not very good with several bumps. In my old limited that material still looked new after five years.

just love it - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By skey - February 24 - 10:00 amI went from a 2000 Solar to a 2004 4Runner, so there was a period of adjustment. After having the 4Runner for 9 months, I can say it is just great. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a mid-sized SUV. And I paid exactly what I expected to pay for it (no hidden costs at all).

excellent except - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By carolyn - January 13 - 10:23 amI love my 4runner except one thing. The fuel economy on this puppy is not that good. I go to the gas pump quite a bit in this thing. The 4 wheel drive is awesome and has pulled me through many a snow storm. Toyota quality is outstanding.

Reliable Suv - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By Zane Shaffer - December 18 - 8:43 amThis is our second Toyota and its been just as reliable as our 1st. Our 4runner has 65000 miles on it and the only problem weve had was a shock that went bad. My wife has a job that requires her to get to work, no matter what the weather is doing. Shes drove in 6 inches of snow with blowing and drifting for 15 miles. She had to drive around vehicles stuck in the middle of the highway. She never spun a wheel. Awesome fourwheel drive system!

2004 SE-V8 - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By pccomptue - December 6 - 10:00 amI sold my Honda Pilot for obvious reasons - The 4Runner is quieter, drives better and awesome v8 power. The Honda was on par but not as refined nor as smooth. I had my Honda Pilot almost two years and with 40k miles. Its ride is harsh and on par with my 2004 honda civic.

Nice try, but disappointing - 2004 Toyota 4Runner
By BrewsterX - October 29 - 2:00 amFits in the short side of my garage, tows 7000 pounds, and is a true off roader. Its a lot more fun to drive on the road than my RX300 was. The X- REAS shocks help, and the torque (and the sound) of the V8 doesnt hurt, either. The fit and finish match the RX300, and the leather seems less fragile. The road noise isolation is extremely good, but there is too much wind noise. There is also a vibration in the steering wheel at around 1700 RPM, which becomes extremely annoying in 5th gear. Instead of fixing the problem, Toyota is calling it "characteristic of the vehicle." Also, so far Im getting no better gas mileage than on my Suburban.
