  • Regretting first ever new car buy - 2008 Nissan Altima
    By -

Love my car, it handles great. Steep curves feel like Sunday driving @ 55+mph. However I have paint drips in tire wells under the fender. Also, I want to pierce my ears to save myself the agony of listening to the screeching sound coming from somewhere on drivers side. Thought it was poorly designed side mirrors, now I am thinking its the tires. It is so horrible I wish I could take my car back. Forget about cruising with the sunroof open and windows rolled down, unless you want to know how it sounds for cats to die miserably.

  • Traded it for $16k - 2008 Nissan Altima
    By -

Owned my Altima for 2 years. Proved to be reliable. I got 26 mpg mixed city/hwy driving (mostly commuting through the city). Like others have said, what I disliked were the seats. Im 65" and I didnt find it comfortable, so I traded it in. I got 16k on my trade for the SL w/leather at 24k mi. Pretty nice car, fun to drive, reliable, not ugly, decent stereo, great transmission, comfortable enough suspension, etc.

  • Hard Vibrating ride - 2008 Nissan Altima
    By -

I purchased the 2.5SL Altima for three main reasons. Fuel economy, style and price. Those are the good things. I noticed a vibration in the front end, on the drive home, between 63 and 70 mph (approx 20 miles). Took it to a tire shop to check the balancing, that helped, but didnt solve it. Im on my third trip to the Nissan shop. If this doesnt fix the problem, I will have to consider another vehicle. The vibration and what I would consider a hard ride, has soured me. I still like the style and fuel economy and would love to have the vibration issue fixed. I will check the tires for overinflation from the factory. That may improve the hard ride.

  • Most reliable car with great mpg - 2008 Nissan Altima

I bought my altima new for under 20K. I now have 50K miles on it and have had only 1 issue. The bolt holding the alternator broke, the fix cost me $75 because the threads were stripped. I am still on my original tires though I do need to replace the fronts now. I calculate actual gas mileage myself and average 28 mpg in mainly city driving. So I go about 560 miles between fill ups (sweet). Car is plenty quick enough and was a lot faster than accord or camry (which I test drove). CVT is smooth and zero probs. Im also 61 and have no problem with headroom or entry exit of vehicle. Theres a reason this car is such a great seller, its an auto mechanics enemy.....

  • Been a great lease, deciding to purchase it or not - 2008 Nissan Altima
    By -

Brand new lease on 08/13/2008, now has 36k miles. Have enjoyed the car so much Im trying to decide whether to just buy it. If it was awd it would be a no brainer. Even with brand new Toyo all seasons this year it still stinks in the winter. Car is too light and cant keep the front tires from slipping entirely too much in the winter, drove my 4wd instead. Brakes have squealed the whole time, dealer says normal. And an odd loud ping upon startup when putting in reverse. Dealer can never reproduce the ping. Other than that great car. Other peoples tranny issues concern me but still has warranty

  • Not happy - 2008 Nissan Altima

The transmission was changed at 4K. Then trunk open button repaired. Car makes strange sounds that is not continues, dealer says it is normal. The trunk makes a click when open and close due to the two-rod design. I used to drive Toyota Camry; this car is far below the level of Toyota. It has a sport body, keyless engine start and many other options, which does not add to the performance. Dealer says the car built with many motors to operate components, which explain the strange sounds. If I had to buy a car, I would not consider Nissan.

  • A Satisfying Purchase - 2008 Nissan Altima

At first, the CVT is weird. But after a while, I got used to it and start to have fun. Semi-auto is responsive. I used to have a Prelude. The only different btw these 2 is one has V6, the other 4 cylinder V-tech, take your pick. Rear-view camara is very useful (at least for my wife). Plenty of power. 3 inches more head room than Accord & Camry given that I have a "longer" torso and its more comfy in this than in those 2 cars. I chose this over IS 250 because of the big interior.

  • Too many issues, now dealer wont fix, Nissan of Folsom problems - 2008 Nissan Altima
    By -

Everything was going pretty good until about 50,000 miles. I am getting a pulsating when letting off the gas, and a rough idle when cold. The 12 v outlet quit working. I brought it back to Future Nissan of Folsom, and they replaced the head! Thankfully I had the Nissan extended warranty, but they wouldnt allow me a rental, even though the extended warranty covers one! I get it back, idle is rough, bring it back, they say the reprogrammed it per some bulletin. The next morning, the idle is as rough as ever. Now the service guy, Rod, who had always been so nice, changes abruptly and tells me theres nothing wrong with my car. Now they wont take my calls and wont fix my car!

  • My two cents - 2008 Nissan Altima

I think the Altima is a good quality product and you get a lot of car for the money; however, I have some issues with it. Most importantly, the exterior of the car crinkles very easily (per auto body mechanic). I had a plastic empty shopping car 3 inches away from the car. It rolled into my car and made a ding. I hope I never get into an accident! I also had a problem with my TPMS light malfunctioning. Also, there is a terrible blind spot when you back up from parking spaces. My sister-in-law has the same problem with her Altima. Its either the back of the car is too high or its the fact there isnt a good visual field from inside the car. not enough window. Very dangerous.

  • Finally a Stand Out Sedan! - 2008 Nissan Altima
    By -

I just purchased this car Jan. 7 and found out that this car really runs great with no jittering feeling when the car shifts gears thanks to the CVT. It really made a big difference. It accelerates good and has a special feature for those who were locked out of their cars. This one wont lock you out and I found out about it accidentally. Put my back pack in the trunk without knowing that my key is in one of its pockets and the trunk keep popping up everytime I tried to close it till I realized that the car key is on it. What a relief, I dont have to call a locksmith.
