This Year's Model Updates:

Kia joins the minivan rumble with the introduction of the Sedona, the lowest-priced minivan in America. Standard on the Sedona are such niceties as air conditioning, power windows, cruise control and auto on/off headlights. Upscale EX models get a CD player, interior wood trim and power front seats. All Sedonas benefit from Kia's impressive Long Haul Warranty with drivetrain protection for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Pros:
  • Unbeatable price, attractive array of standard goodies, great warranty package.
Cons:
  • Missing some key minivan features, engine could use more power.

  • Do Not Buy a Kia - 2002 Kia Sedona
    By -

This van has been a complete piece of junk from day one. Gas mileage is horrible. Transmission went at 15,000 miles. Front Brakes need to be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. A/C system has been completely replaced and still does not cool well and is extremely noisy. The following also have been replaced: Alternator, Front Hub Bearings (twice), front struts, front stabilizer links, rear heater lines, accelerator cable and battery. Do not buy this van unless you like visiting the service department very often. Worst automobile purchase I have ever made. A PIECE OF JUNK!!!

  • Disappointed Purchaser - 2002 Kia Sedona

Was very excited to have such an equipped minivan for the price, that is until it proved to be totally unreliable. Had to have service on it around 20 times (no really). Transmission replaced, AC components replaced several occasions and still does not function properly on long road trips (more than 100 miles). We only have 42,000 miles on it. My advice. Stay away from the 2002. Glad to see there are more positive reviews than negative and others are having better luck with their Sedona.

  • Great Mini-Van ! Small Problem - 2002 Kia Sedona
    By -

This van is awesome and fun to drive. It has all the features of vans 6K more. We have 4k miles on it and no problems yet except a stress cracked windshield. We were driving on the road and heard a sound like a rock hitting the windshield. The problem is that there was no car or truck in front of us. Two 8 inch cracks appeared toward the bottom of the windshield where the defrosters lays. I am taking it to the dealer monday to see if they belive me. There is no nick or any evidence of a rock chipping where the crack starts. I have seen other reports of this problem. Besides the windshield the van is a great buy.

  • Not all lemons grow on trees - 2002 Kia Sedona

Bought it used so expected some small problem right away. 2 days after purchase the dealer replaced the left front wheel, both front tire [they were all the way worn down on inside not outer side], all brakes including rotors. Drove great 5 months then just did not start. Turns out it needs cam sensor and some other sensor, new belts, water pump, power steering hose, manifold and tires rotated. New tires are beginning to wear too much on inside. If you are considering purchasing, RUN do not walk, RUN AWAY. Considering the mileage these parts should still be good. KIA parts do not last under normal use. KIA must use a cheap, bad grade, of plastic -all plastic parts easily break.

  • 2002 Kia Sedona - Great Value - 2002 Kia Sedona
    By -

Purchased Kia Sedona based upon the great price and features it offered. Most other minivans with Rear Air Conditioning (needed for young children) were around $22,000 - $24,000. Only complaint is that on the EX model, it doesnt have keyless entry and the "unlock all door" feature only works on the Driver Side door (which differs from what the owners manual says). Other than that we have been pleased with the van.

  • You will pay for that warranty - 2002 Kia Sedona
    By -

Own a 2002 KIA Sedona EX. I complained about lights going dim while under warranty. Kia checked, said everything within parameters. Guess what, 3000 miles out of warranty alternator died. KIA says its on you now. 63,000 miles and they want $565.00 to repair; that includes alternator, belts and labor. Its not a repair you can do either, seems AC lines are in the way. Do you think KIA planned it? Ask them about changing spark plugs the rear 3, seems you need to remove the air intake manifold? That will require new gaskets? Not sure of that cost. I hope to dump this Sedona by then! Think twice before you buy, they will get you to pay for that supposedly free 5year/60000 bumper to bumper warranty. RIPOFF.

  • Kia Sedona is worth looking at - 2002 Kia Sedona

This is a great family van. We just recently purchased this van and we could not be happier. Luxury interior and lots of special features have surprised everyone we have shown this van to. Dont shy away from this van because of the reasonable price. It is just a great van at a great price. We now own 2 Kias (the other is a Sportage) and were very happy.

  • Why pay more? - 2002 Kia Sedona

After extensive study I found I could buy more value with less dollars. Why buy a name like Honda and pay $5,000 more? I still get 10 yr 100,000 mile warranty and more features.

  • Old Codgers Comfort Zone - 2002 Kia Sedona
    By -

I bought my 2002 Sedona In 2004.It had 22K miles on it, Now has 106K miles. the only thing I have replaced are tires, brake pads, battery, and recently the alternator, which are normal replacement items. The van is dependable, and performs very well.

  • LOVE IT - 2002 Kia Sedona
    By -

I absolutely love this van. Funny thing is, I never looked at a Kia van before I walked in and bought this one. I have the EX model. Nicely well equipped. This has so many options, I guarantee I still havent found some. One of the options that blew me away was the "heated windshield wipers"! I was told that these are an awesome feature for winter (which is horrible in Ohio) because they keep your wipers from sticking to the window! Awesome. I love my Sedona and will definitely be buying the new and updated version that was just displayed at the 2005 auto show. (LOVE the middle windows that roll down!) In summation: BUY ONE! (you wont regret it!).
