This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Not Impressed thus far - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I just picked up my new X-type a week ago, and already I am having problems with the steering wheel shaking between 50-65 MPH. Drives great above 70 though, unfortunately I cant drive it at 70 all the time. Also I think the fuel ecomomy is below average. You would think for a car this size economy would be better. It looks nice on the outside and nice on the inside, but I dont feel like it is built the way it should be for the price. Kinda feels like a rental. I owned the 3 series BMW and LOVED it, it felt much more solid, the Jag doesnt compare.

  • Fords version of a Jaguar - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Took delivery of my new X-type in December. The motor runs well, the car is quiet. Handling, however, is not good. The car and steering wheel bounce and rumble - perhaps the AWD gears arent smooth. As a result, the car has very poor feel of the road, since the steering wheel bounces on its own, along with the car freame - worse as the car speeds up. Ride is adequate at low speeds, however. The seat was loose and the tires underinflated and way out of balance as delivered. Handling improved a little when I had the tires balanced, but still not right (see above). Still a Ford, and a great disappointment.

A pretty car which is completely unreliable. Jaguar has replaced my fuel tank, my trunk lock 3 times, my navigation system twice, my integrated phone 4 times. The phone still doest work right, and they say it is not fixable. My childproof window locks are unreliable and fail nearly everyday. My headlights have failed. On the plus side, I think the blue color is pretty. A total disaster!!!!!

  • Entry Level? - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

My oh my. They say this is an entry level vehicle? Think again. My wife and I are wondering what professional car editors have against this vehicle? We test drove the BMW 3- series and the Mercedes at comparable prices. IOHO there comparison to fit and finish. No comparison to the service. This look will remain classic for a long time.

I found the engine sounds tinny, like a turbo charged Civic, high piched. The leather seats seem quite cheep as compared with the Infiniti G35, the Volvo S60 or other competing cars. The car looks like a Taurus. If you want a sporty car buy the Infiniti G35 AWD, a safer, more reliable and more fun to drive is the Volvo S60. I dont like the Jaguar

  • Great car - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I just bought a 2.5 automatic X-Type. I live in the Philly area and we have been getting some snow this winter. This car handles the snow like it is not even there. The AWD is great! The car also stands out and gets a lot of looks from others. I have been very happy with this car and would highly recommend it.

  • Disappointing glitches in new luxury car - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

The X-Type is an excellent all-weather car with tons of Jaguar options. On the negative, the build quality is disappointing - coolant leak, driver seat repairs, interior trim rattles & squeaks, and the car is less than 3 months old. Jaguar is good about fixing the issues & service is what you expect from a high-end car company. Even with those issues, I still rate it very high -- the rattles dont impact the all-round performance of the car. It beats the SUVs in poor weather performance & fuel economy, not to mention the status of being a Jaguar. Oh yes, the price was less than most SUVs too.

fit and finish is excellent, handles like a dream, more tire noise than i would like, could use a few more hp.

  • Our Fifth Jaguar - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

this is the base model 2.5 standard shift with a $6.500 factory rebate, a great buy at $23,650. BRG non metalic with sand leather interior. A one CD changer in the dash ( which I like better than the trunk mounted unit)We have owned two BMW328S and like this car as well, but for diffrent reasons. Comfort, ride and looks are on top The BMW is still the preformance king.

I have only had my X for a couple but it is one of the best decisions I have made. So far it has been pure heaven and all my friends are wondering how? I love the 3 series but the Jag was better price for me. I am 65" and I am very comfortable.
