This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Pleasantly surprised - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I recently took delivery of this vehicle, and I am content with it. I was looking for a 4wd sedan for less than 30K and this one came on top for the type and options included. The vehicle did come with a lot of options, but with some patience and a great sales individual I managed to get a great deal for it. The ride is whats expected of a European sedan. The steering is precise and the transmission is smooth. Because it is a 2.5 the acceleration is not that strong, but sufficient enough to provide a joyful ride. The finish inside is good, and the chrome accentuates the car perfectly.

  • Awesome Car Awesome Service - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

As a previous Audi A4 and BMW 323i owner, I know great entry level luxury sedans. Service is the differentiating factor here. BMW service is the most awful, painful experience ever! Audi is great, but the old A4 was too tight inside. The X-type gives you performance and a service/dealership experience far superior to BMW or Audi. To the car - great car inside and out for an unbelievable price. We got the factory lease deal and had a no haggle price. Wood dash, great leather, and all-wheel drive makes this car hard to beat.

Bought the car for my wife. She and I both love and I am now looking into buying a second X-Type for myself.

  • Excellent - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Outstanding car. Bought two cars at the same time - BMW-xi and Jaguar X-type and like Jaguar more. Design - excellent, fuel economy - 30 ml/gl at 65 ml/h, comfort - excellent. Price - got 6000 discount from MSRP. Reliability - do not know yet.

  • "Experts"??? - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I was an MG driver for many years and have always enjoyed the "British" feel for a car. Yes, the X-type is not a standard Jag, but with gas at $4, who would want one? This car is perfect for what we all do -- drive to work, the Metro or run a few errands. I find nothing "cheap" about the interior; the camel interior goes beautifully with the British racing green exterior. Yes, I cant get to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, but Ford (which has a long tradition in building British cars) has put together just the right package of performance, appearance and creature comforts to make this car worth every dime. Youd be a fool to waste your money on a far more expensive German or high-end Japanese car.

  • x-type heaven - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

i purchased this vehicle as a loaner car from the dealer. it was one of the early jags made. at first, there were some problems all covered under warranty. heater went out, noise from the drivertrain, malfunction fuel sender unit causing a gas leak, all repaired at my local dealer that provided a free loaner car. twice i was given a s-type. since february 02 i have had no problems. the dealer even gave me 100,000 mile/ 6 year warranty. i am not worried about any future problems. i would recommend this car.

  • Terrific Vehicle - Highly Recommended - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Bought this after evaluating the competition. Best price compared to options offered as well as stylish interior and exterior. Wish I had gotten the 3.0, but will get that next. Highly recommended as it is powerful, well built (only in the dealership for no-charge oil changes), gets looks, and is well-priced.

  • New Cat in the Family - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

I have found the X-Type a joy to drive, being surprised with its acceleration and handling. After switching between my Vette and the Jag., the usually reorientation between vehicles has narrowed considerably. Wisconsin winters no longer are the challenge they were in the past. Styling is a plus. Its is super ego boost to have the number of people who stop to look her over at the malls, stations, etc. Very pleased with the purchase of my little cat.

  • Great car! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Car handles like a charm. I have the 2.5 and its all I need. Snow is no problem with the AWD. Love the way it hugs the road. I would prefer a little more head room, but Im very happy with it overall.

  • First car in years that I really like! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

This is the first car in years that Ive really liked. Particularly the chassis, a part of the car that Ive never before paid much attention to, provides a solidity that makes this car a joy - on the highway where Ive cruised at 185 km/hour (115 mph) (and dont ask where) and on windy mountain roads (where I went much slower).
