This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

The ride is excellent for a small vehicle. The all wheel drive and size makes it a luxury compact. Easy to park, drive... All service for the vehicle is included. Everytime the car is serviced it is completely detailed at no extra cost. I have wanted a Jaguar since 1975. I have always liked their looks. The Jaguar is 3 years old and I still get compliments on it. If you are looking for a respected people car buy a Jaguar. If you like harsh ride and odd controls buy German.

This car is superior to all others tested in the $30-40k range: Acura TL/CL: Minuses - head room, front wheel drive, sound system, whiny engine, suspension dampening. 3 series BMW: Minuses - Inferior sound system, cabin size-especially width. Jaguar much more car for the money. Volvo: Nice for additional$10k. The X-Series Jaguar is an almost perfect combination of sports/luxury sedan.

Since purchasing my Jaguar, I have had some improvement install on it that makes my Jaguar take notice. Other word, it is the only one in the country like it.

I spent six months researching entry level luxury vehicles. I narrowed the selection down to the Mercedes 240 and the Jaguar X-Type. On the criteria of style, features and driving, the Jaguar was my choice. I love it more each time I drive it!

Outstanding ride with firm and deliberate control at all times. Holds up well (too bad I found out) in a crash at 35 mph. Comfortable front seating, fun to drive. 2.5 engine peppy, but somewhat under powered. Good gas mileage. Outstanding comfort and stability even over large bumps or train tracks.

Ive had my X-type for 18 months too long. The only good experience Ive had is that its allowed me to drive other cars while itin the shop. Terrible craftmanship and poor fit and finish make it feel like Im driving a Pinto!

Had differential, prop shaft and window regulator replace along with dash electrical and other smaller items. The dealer had the car for more than one week for the first three months and then not so frequent.

I have a 2003 3.0 Automatic. Loved the car at first - the style and sporty drive. Now after only 10,000 mi I have had the transmission replaced 2X! They finally had to admit that they had transmission problems with these cars. I have talked to other X-Type owners and they have experinced the same thing. At first the dealer denied there was a problem until I made a real stink. It still isnt right so they are calling in Jaguar HQ.

This car pleases the driver in every way. From the tight handling to the smooth ride. Interior amenities are superb. (The seats seem pretty firm at first, but they make you love them with a little use) I have a near base 2.5 automatic. First impression is little weak off line until you are serious, then the claws come out! Exterior says JAG in no uncertain terms, and truly grabs attention. Great Car!
