This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

AN EXCELLENT ENTRY-LEVEL JAGUAR.....EVERYTHING I WOULD WANT IN A CAR.

  • This is not a car, its a Jaguar! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I love this car. It rides beautifully and I love the "get up and go" of it. The trunk space is great as well. I never thought I would own a Jaguar, but now that I do, I am hooked.

  • SKIP this Model! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

This is not a real Jaguar- Never had a Jag before, and after having all sorts of problems with my Audi A6 (no dealerships on Long Island could figure out what was wrong with the car), I swapped it for the X-type. What a mistake! The instrument gauges work intermittently (YES, sometimes they are just still, reading 0 MPH when on the freeway, etc.), the car SQUEAKS over every bump and dip in the road, the automatic headlights only work when they want to, and the dashboard vents curl up (had these replaced under warranty twice, still curls up! Ive given up on these). The rear park sensors dont always work. NOT acceptable for a $36k car. Look elsewhere when shopping in this category.

the 2.5 x-type starts at 29,999 and it is a steal at that price. Great looks, 200hp v6, leather interior, all wheel drive, free maintance. Its a great alternative to a 325 or c class

  • Nice to drive but typical Jag quality - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I bought this car because of its handling and appeal. I love the drive, particularly in bad weather (40/60 split awd is amazingly good) and on the highway. BUT, the build quality is the worse Ive ever had to deal with. Ive owned about 15 cars, most bought new and this is by far the worse. Even before the car was delivered the cooling system sprung a leak. Since then, Ive had many problems with trim rattles/squeaks/broken parts and the engine runs rougher at idle than old Hyundai Pony.

  • Is subdued ok? - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

IMO the X-type lacks the soul and character that BMW, Audi, and now Acura do well building into their cars. It definitely looks the part, with its Jaguar styling cues and the leaper on the hood. But it doesn’t have any of driver dynamics (handling, performance, or quantitative feel) or the solidity (build quality, qualitative feel) that the aforementioned class leaders have. Yes, the X-type rides well, handles competently, and has adequate zip but it doesnt exude that driving excitement to make we want to drive it hard and fast. Maybe thats what Jaguars after, a subdued experience. If thats what you’re looking for the X- type is right up your alley.

My x-type is barely off the showroom floor, but I am -so far- impressed with the performance and build of the car. Spent countless hours researching features and price. After checking out the "Car Discussion" forums, was able to find a dealer (Rahal, Wexford, PA) and negotiate a terrific deal. This is a dream car with classic styling, despite the "Ford-like" criticisms by some reviewers. My experience places this car in the "superb" category. The x- type provides a lot of bang for the buck. If youre looking for a distinctive automobile at an affordable price, consider the X-Type Jauar. Zooooooom!

  • Overall, I love my Jag - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

After trading in my big SUV I am having fun driving again. Its a pretty car, maneuvers well, has good pick up, and feels secure in all types of weather (really tested due to our tough New England winter this year). However, interior space feels a bit tight, and pricing with options is a bit high, which in particular, causes me to be disappointed when I the similar styling and paint colors on Fords out on the road (Jag should be more distinctive). Overall, though Ive had no complaints and I love my Jag.

  • Stylish and Performance for 30k$ !!! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I own the 3.0 and it has power to spare..great pickup and on the road will run with more than enough power to land you in jail! The car also has very tight cornering and nice breaking while still having a smooth ride. You do hear a bit of road noise inside the car though. The interior is nicely done(for a car in this price range especially) although I do agree with others that the seat belt "snaps" are cheap and plastic(directly out of a ford). Otherwise the leather is great, nice shifter and dash. Bottom Line, this car is not a 50,000$ car but offers styling on that level. It performs excellent for the price and seems to be nice quaility.

I went to buy a G35 but bought the X. More features and comfort for the money.I was somewhat surprised to catch Edmunds comparisions incorrect. Several of the features were listed as N/A or not all, (now corrected). Because of what the auto reviews were saying, I thought that I would be getting "less performance" out of the 2.5 . Ive had my X for 9 months now and no complaints as I rip off the white line!
