Overview & Reviews
Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.
- Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
- Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

Very Affordable Jaguar for the Masses - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By Joseph L - September 9 - 10:00 amRe:Jaguar X type AWD 2.5 auto, sunroof, heated seats for invoice OUT THE DOOR. Because of the $2k incentive that dealers are getting from JaguarNA. Power is 3rd in class behind BMW & Audis. Goto the 3.0 if u need to race. 2.5 V6 is sufficent for mix hwy/city. Well made & put together inside. Quality seems to be improved in 2nd year of production. Weird is the free included service schedule calls for oil changes @ 10K interval Yet, the car doesnt use synthetic oil!! If u plan on keeping the car for a awhile...stick w/ 3K miles oil changes @ YOUR expense. Very good package for the price esp. now that car market is full of competitors.

Quality midsize performer. - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By Flyingweightech - August 29 - 2:00 amAlthough classed as "Midsize" its quality seating makes the interior seem small. Should the driver require all the available seat adjustment, it gives very little room for the rear passenger. As a drivers car, it has few equals. The All Wheel Drive gives great confidence in all weather conditions. The superb road handling can give the impression the car is on rails! Powered by the zesty 3.0 litre engine it can leave you with the impression that you are behind a turbo charged V8! Take your foot off the power and you are driving a luxury limo. Put your foot down and the smooth powerful engine puts you in the Ferrari class.

Jaguar X-Type 2.5 awd - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By Mikeps - August 6 - 10:00 amI bought this 2003 X-type (manual transmission) with 5,400 miles. I love it so far. Have had it for four months and have had no problems yet. The awd is excellent. Near impossible to spin a tire or lose control of car. Acceleration is good and handling is great. Exterior styling turns heads wherever I go.

Better than reported by the "experts" - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By love my X - February 20 - 9:56 amEveryone and their cousin has either a 3 series or C class - for good reason, both are excellent cars, Ive had both - but it was time for a change. On that note this little Jag delivers. People dont confuse it for a Corolla or Honda. The body style is very reminiscent of the 84 which was one of my favorite cars as a kid. Regarding power, it accelerates just fine, I dont need a racecar to go back and forth to work or run errands. As for issues regarding the small rear seat, this is a small car, not a Chevrolet Impala. Its meant to be small and nimble, which is part of what makes it perfect. It drives smooth and the sport mode makes it quicker.

Much better than I expected - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By Darel Parker - February 4 - 4:13 amAfter looking at similarly priced BMWs and Mercedes, I decided to take a chance on the X-Type and I have not been disappointed. I absolutely love this car. Inside and out, the X-Type is beautiful, and driving it is a dream. With an automatic transmission, the 2.5 liter engine is a bit underpowered but the performance is more than acceptable and the handling is superb. The X-Type styling really stands out in the crowded entry-level luxury market. If you dont tell people what you paid for the car, theyll assume you paid twice as much. It is that nice.

Entry level review - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By OregonXtype - November 3 - 10:00 amSo, after looking at a number of cars to buy, I decided on the entry level X type. After signing the 3 year lease, the car was mine. I purchased a base model with a 5 speed manual. Almost right away, the heater broke, which, is a bummer in Oregon during the Winter. So, back to the dealer ship and then we waited for parts. To make a long story short, we eventually ended up with another X type as the first one was not fixable. To show there appreciation for the problem they gave me a S type as a loaner (During my three week wait) and when I got my new X type back, they upgraded me to 17" wheels at no extra charge!

Against the grain - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By baisley1 - January 16 - 2:00 amMuch better car than "experts" say. Drawbacks are in two areas: 1) Not enough oomph: care must downshift to get away from itself. 2) Rear seat legroom is grossly inadequate. Big plus is the tremendous first rate service of the dealer (Heritage Jaguar, Freeport, NY)

Street glider, scene styler - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By mg200 - August 28 - 10:00 amWhite leather, AWD, moon roof with split rear seats, navigation (with gas stations!!), garage control, electronic seats - what same-class vehicle has these options? Critics mention the sluggish 2.5 acceleration - this matters if youre downgrading from an XJ/S. For the same price, you can drive a Mercedes shell, and "turn the dial" for seat control and use paper maps. The X type - take it skiing, take it touring, take it home...

The Gage Report - 2003 Jaguar X-Type
By Chrissyeye - August 4 - 10:00 amI purchased a pre-owned 2003 - 3.0 in June of 2004. Owning a Jaguar has always been my dream. Now that the "kiddies" are gone, I have one and I love it. I have all the options except navigation. I am waiting to see what the AWD does in the Chicago snow. I would definately buy another. Just one thing, for the price I think the car should have a bit more of a super- charged engine, a little more get up and go or possibly a better transition when vehicle is shifting gears and a better suspension or tires even, could feel a little more softer over bumps, and God knows Chicago has plenty of those. Other than that, this 50s plus female is "In Love with her car".
