This Year's Model Updates:

Most significant for the Honda minivan this year is the option to get the Touring trim with the rear-seat entertainment system and not the navigation system. Previously, the two features were always packaged together. Other changes this year include additional child-seat tether anchors for the third row and standard satellite radio for the Touring model. Finally, stated power output for the Odyssey's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Split flat-folding rear bench
  • Agile, carlike handling
  • Optional eight-passenger seating
  • Strong reliability record.
  • Extensive feature list
  • Smooth and powerful V6

Vehicle is pleasant to drive, flexible interior layout, with useful space and fair gas mileage for a vehicle of this size. Have had issues with seat panels repeatedly falling off, clunking sound when selection reverse, early brake and tire change (PAX). Second set of tires are wearing very fast. Steering pump was changed, battery replacement after 2.5 years. CD player quit 2 months after warranty expiration. Some small interior parts repeatedly falling off.

  • Great Van - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Traded in a 2003 with L/DVD. The amenities and redesign on the 2006 are excellent. Comfortable, roomy and reliable. This van will haul it all. Toyota loses to this one hands down. I will stick with Honda.

  • Great van but discovered few odd things - 2006 Honda Odyssey

So far so good, no problems yet but then its still new. The VCM cuts in and out without ever you noticing it. Lots of power and gas mileage has been decent so far, averaging 24mpg in the city. I like the climate control system but the AC has this musky smell when using it in fresh air mode. Also, my daughter discovered a few odd things. 1. While sitting in the back row she noticed that the bottom of the cup holders and the storage box on the passenger side were warm. 2. With the middle row windows opened 1/2 way it sounded like a helicopter was right over you, actually hurts the ears driving at 35mph+. 3. The bottom 1/3 of the huge tailights dont light up when you turn them on.

  • almost perfect... - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Long dreaded joining the minivan club but our aging Ford Explorer couldnt handle a third car seat that is now less than 2 months away. Now that weve taken the leap, simply cant believe how great this vehicle is and why we didnt buy an Odyssey sooner. Outstanding fit and finish, utility, fuel economy (compared to a SUV), and ride comfort. Drives like a mid-size sports sedan. Quiet ride too--as long as the kids are pre-occupied with a DVD. A little embarrased to admit we really enjoy cruising around in a minivan now--this Odyssey changed our paradigm.

  • Wonderful minivan - 2006 Honda Odyssey

I love this van already. It has so much storage space it is ridiculous. We are still finding pockets daily! This is amazing and so is the fuel economy given the fact that it is almost twice as large as my small SUV owned previously. Also drives like a car and prrrrs like a kitten as you would expect from a Honda. My dad has a Honda Accord w/ 250,000 miles on it!

  • The Good, the Bad, the Ugly - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

The Good - performance, visibility, function and utility. Reasonably comfortable on long trips. The Bad - initial fuel mileage was poor and took close to 30,000 km before an appreciable difference was noticed compared to my 1992 Aerostar. Short carpet- tearing in rear well. At 43,000 km - power steering pump started making a growling nose was replaced. Bad road noise in mid to rear compartment of vehicle, even after under coating. Needs a better stereo system..no MP3. The Ugly - nothing yet.

  • Not so great for carpooling! - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I have three kids and carpool with two other children. You cannot easily, comfortably fit 3 children in car seats in the back row. I am very disappointed in the fact that the cup holders take up room in the third row and I cant fit three kids back there. When I called Honda to inquire they were not at all helpful. Overall disappointed by the minivan.

  • Brakes - 2006 Honda Odyssey

We have owned this car for 3 yrs. Bought it new. Am a stay at home mom and have not driven it much but in 3 yrs. we have had the brake pads replaced once under warranty and now they are grinding AGAIN at 33,000 and the dealership wants us to pay saying a 25,000 mile repair is normal. We own another car and in 100,000 miles have never replaced the pads. BE FOREWARNED ABOUT THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS. I am now going to contact Corp. and see what response I get.
