This Year's Model Updates:

Most significant for the Honda minivan this year is the option to get the Touring trim with the rear-seat entertainment system and not the navigation system. Previously, the two features were always packaged together. Other changes this year include additional child-seat tether anchors for the third row and standard satellite radio for the Touring model. Finally, stated power output for the Odyssey's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Split flat-folding rear bench
  • Agile, carlike handling
  • Optional eight-passenger seating
  • Strong reliability record.
  • Extensive feature list
  • Smooth and powerful V6

  • Odyssey EX-L w/ Nav is one great minivan - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Upgraded from a 97 Nissan Quest after testing driving the new Quest and Sienna. This is the best minivan out there in terms of performance, safety, reliability, feature and price. The exterior design could be better but not as bad as the new Quest. Took two long trips and the mileage is around 25 which is worse than 28 EPA but still better than the old Quest, city is about 20MPG. Nav, 6 disk CD/stereo with XM, moonroof, pwr rear window, sunshade, rear DVD, in floor storage, fold down rear seats are nice. Leather package worth the difference with VCM engine. Glad I passed on the problematic/expensive Touring. Add towing package and fog lights. Good ride but harsher than the old Quest.

We just passed 36K and are making first trip to the dealer for the brakes. I think its a little early for a $200 brake job, but gotta do it. Other than that, great vehicle thus far, especially on long trips!

One of the better driving vehicles out there. Not sure why people are bashing the mileage, theyre driving 2 tons on four wheels! I get about 25 for road trips and 16-17 local driving (Ive noticed that frequent start and stops with short distances <10 miles will drop the mileage on any car) It gets about the same or better mileage than my 02 Maxima. Ride comfort could be a little better like the Sienna but I would have to sacrafice handling. Love the space in the back, way more utility than a SUV. Actually wish there was an extended version. Love the overall design and look, IMHO the best looking minivan out there.

  • Honda does it again - 2006 Honda Odyssey

My wife and I had a Odyssey back in 2001 which we loved. We thought we upgraded a few years back to a Ford Expedition. Hated the mileage and missed the Honda. This is primarily my wifes vehicle, but I have to admit I love to drive it. Honda really didnt miss much with the 06 Odyssey. We looked at Sienna vs Honda and felt the Honda was superior in every aspect. The Odyssey has more options for less money. We have had it for two weeks and have yet to complain about anything.

  • comfortable ride - 2006 Honda Odyssey

i recommend the base lx version if you can live without the expensive "bells and whistles"..the lx is well equiped, roomy, and comfortable on long trips...if you dont need a vehicle for towing and want a lot of room, this and other minivans are a much better value than large suvs..dont worry about the "soccer mom" stigma...no reliability issues so far..highly recommended...

We purchased vehicle 5/31/06 and have taken it on a 600 and 1700 mile trip. Its pretty comfortable to ride in and looks great. We had a trial period of 3 mos. of XM Satellite Radio and thats all we listened to on our trips.

Overall my odyssey has been pretty good.. I had to take it it for a recall for the power steering pump about 6 months of ownership. The pump was making a whining noise like Fords Ive driven in the past. This is my first Honda. My wife and I hope to keep it a long time.

  • Should have bought a Suburban - 2006 Honda Odyssey

My 2006 Odyssey with cylinder deactivation has yet to get close to 20 MPG, even with 100% highway miles. Nothing like the claimed fuel economy. Also, it is the worst road-noise car Ive owned in a decade. I recently rented a Grand Caravan for several weeks which was much quieter and smoother ride (and better mileage).

  • Biggest Bang for the $$$$ - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Im a certified Master technician. My wife and I researched for months and finally purchased the honda. The toyota was a close runner-up. Quality and resale are my biggest concerns and Honda has an excellent track record. I agree with many of the posts, Honda should consider focusing more on the convenience issues.

  • Not what I expected - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Honda does not have a power adjustable seat for the passenger. The steering wheel controls do not light up enough to see at night. The instrument cluster and the radio and temp controls do not match. The radio and heater look like something from 20 years ago. (Dim and dull.) The gas mileage is not what they claim. I dont have a heavy foot, but can only get about 15 in town and 24 on the highway. The interior is very good for hauling 7 people, and comfortable. All in all, this is my first Honda, and with a few improvements I would buy another. I was afraid of the run flat tires, and it is too bad that you have to get them to get more bells and whistles. Lets hope they change.
