This Year's Model Updates:

Most significant for the Honda minivan this year is the option to get the Touring trim with the rear-seat entertainment system and not the navigation system. Previously, the two features were always packaged together. Other changes this year include additional child-seat tether anchors for the third row and standard satellite radio for the Touring model. Finally, stated power output for the Odyssey's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Split flat-folding rear bench
  • Agile, carlike handling
  • Optional eight-passenger seating
  • Strong reliability record.
  • Extensive feature list
  • Smooth and powerful V6

  • Great Vehicle - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Purchased the Odyssey (EX-L w/RES) a little over a week ago. I have had minivans for nearly 20 years. I had always resisted going for a Honda or Toyota because of the high selling prices. However, having put up with minivans from Ford and Dodge, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and put quality ahead of price. Looking at vehicles from Honda and Toyota, the Odyssey was clearly best for my purposes. Even though I have only had the vehilce for a week, the difference in quality between it and the domestics is obvious. I also got a good price on the vehicle, paying less than invoice. At this point, I couldnt be happier.

  • wheel bearings - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Hard driven 96,000 miles, 1st real problem ever is front wheel bearings, gotten so bad so fast, was first mistaken for noisy out of alignment tires, @ 48 mph is worse, put car in neutral and cut off engine (in a safe manner) if noise remain it is a $850 repair job @ a Honda dealer. Watch out for the common scams, you have water in your transmission and your $700 engine mounts are broken, 2 @ $1400.1st ever brake pads in front, spark plugs but was not needed, 6 cd changer is stupid in todays cars, they break, mp3 is better and cheaper choice. Anyway dealers double charges you for everything, $60 for shop supplies? Engine mounts for $1400 and scare tactics youre going to crash, will hurt Hondas reputation.

Im very happy with my van, due to health problems I havent been able to drive it as much as I want. The MPG are pretty good 17-18 city & 26 Hwy. Ive read some reviews that stated poor gas mileage. maybe they are driving at 90 on the Hwy, Im driving 70-75. The worst Hwy MPG Ive gotten was 24 MPG. Am I happy I bough it ? Yes !!

  • No More Hondas for this Family - 2006 Honda Odyssey

This is our second Odyssey (first was an 04) and it will be our last. Main reason for purchase was improved fuel economy from the VCM transmission and it has performed horribly (avg 15 mpg city) which is where most of the driving is done. Dealership says they need to have it for 3 days to simulate fuel economy before they will evaluate to see if problem exists with VCM, but they wont give us a loaner! Have had both the fuel pump belt and the fuel pump replaced already, and it only has 19,000 miles. We are 5 time Honda owners (two Civics, two Odysseys and a Pilot), and this will be our last. Looking at Toyotas next! Someone needs to introduce a hybrid minivan to the US market!

  • Pros and Cons - 2006 Honda Odyssey

We just received our 2006 Odyssey EX-L w/ DVD. Biggest gripe? NO COIN HOLDER!!!! There are way too many cup holders, and no place to nicely organize our coins. Also, where we used to have a under the seat (passenger) drawer, they put our subwoofer! In the past, the subs were always installed under the drivers seat. Maybe this was an installers mistake? In the past we had a 2002 and 2004 Odyssey EXLs, and thought they were a bit "vanilla", but very nice. The newest van has a very impressive dash, better leather on the seats, cool (for a van) sunroof, and neat little hidey-holes for all your stuff.

  • Enjoyable - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Have had for almost 1 1/2 years. Excellent on long trips, but very loud road noise in interior on hwy, especially concrete roads. Steers well, rear entertainment system great, picture awesome. Very versatile with 3 kids. Middle row seats can move backfurther for leg room. Power doors annoying at times, need to be in park or they wont work. Needs automatic headlights and auto locks. Rear visibility limited when small vehicle behind when parallel parking. Heat/cool controls awkward, too many buttons to push just to turn heat or A/c on. Gas mileage 15 city, get 25-27 on straight highway when in economy mode. Solid feeling vehicle, good fit and finish. Handles well in rain, and snow.

  • 20/28 mpg, not quite! - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Its a pretty decent vehicle, although we miss the comfort of our Chrysler LXI. The Chrysler was quieter and drove more like a car. The brakes in the Honda and other safety features are far superior though. The two things that just frost me are the fact that the sticker mileage was lets just say -- inaccurate. Yea, I know your mileage may vary but I expect to be able to at least compare these numbers with other vehicles. Were getting 15 in the city and 18 on the highway with no execptional demand on the car! Thats less than my gas guzzling neighbors Suburban! I brought it to Hondas attention and they said your mileage may vary

  • Thanks for the crashbox Honda - 2006 Honda Odyssey

My wife and I purchased this vehicle new in Feb 06. We are very pleased with the vehicle. We have averaged between 21-26 mpg since its purchase (70%highway) and have had no mechanical issues to date. I never imagined that a minivan could be fun to drive, but this one is. Most importantly, it is a very safe well engineered vehicle. My wife and two kids (20Months/3years) were recently involved in a serious side impact collision with a full size pickup. In the end, the vehicle suffered approx.19K in damage, but all three walked away unharmed. We purchased an 08 model as a replacement. Thanks Honda, From a greatful father and husband

  • Bet mini van ever owned !!! - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Nothing about this mini van we dont like !! Had Chrysler town and country and others, no comparision! Gas mileage just as claimed, brakes smooth and quiet.Love the roll down back windows with sun shades.Rear camera a real bonus. Easy Nav system compared with others.{touch screen}Front and back warning system a real help. Most only have rear.Tires could be quieter but run flat option out ways the noise. {its not that bad, at all !} Just cant say enough great things about the van. and we have bought and sold a lot of vehicles. We plan on keeping this van a long time !!

  • Great car but two gotchas - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Great car, very tight build, very quiet. But the gas mileage so far is 15-16 in town, and 22-24 on the highway. Far from what the window sticker says. Coupled with a fairly small gas tank for a van and it means that the range is not very good. And while there are about a hundred cupholders, none of them work very well. Youll be chasing bottles of water after every turn.
