Overview & Reviews
The Odyssey gains an intermittent rear window wiper this year, as well as an auto up-and-down driver-side window.
- Excellent crash test scores, huge interior, fold-flat third-row seat, powerful V6, optional navigation and entertainment system.
- Quality of some interior materials could be better, high demand limits negotiating possibilities.

105k Review - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Sid - March 25 - 1:37 pmBought new with DVD system (nav and DVD not possible together on this version). Powerful van and rides smooth today like it did when we bought it. Lots of space. Had 2 recalls which were fixed. Minor annoyances with engine check light coming on at times. Left sliding door is now malfunctioning and needs to be fixed. When braking hard, there is sometimes a clunking noise at the back that sounds like ABS. Fuel economy is avg at 20 mpg combined. Overall - satisfied.

Typical Honda - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Hurricane - February 20 - 10:00 amEverything works well. All controls are in the right place. You do not even have to read the owners manual except to find the spare tire.

The first 1000 miles - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By RSH - January 1 - 2:00 amHave not driven enough miles to make an in-depth review of this vehicle. But have notice a few glaring errors that Honda passed over. There are no automatice locks for the doors, this van has no driving lights, and has no fog lamps. All of the items just listed are safety issues and is an embarrassment for the likes of Honda. My 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix has these standard features and all for over $12,000.00 less. Honda needs to re- think their standard features, certainly on a $30,000.00 vehicle.

Transmission - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Chad - December 24 - 2:27 pmWe bought our van used, but it only had 43K miles. At 52K miles we noticed that every morning it would hesitate shifting, or shift hard. Once it warmed up, the problem wouldnt appear until the next morning. We took it to the dealership, and they said it needed a new transmission. I am a die hard Honda lover, but am disappointed with this flaw. We buy Honda for their reliability.

Honda Odyssey, not perfect - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By David Elliot - December 15 - 10:00 amIt is a very good mini, my third mini van after Chrysler and Ford. The inside is great, especially I love folding in the third seat to the floor. The gas mileage is fair, with a very small gas tank. Ride and handling are good. air conditioning is good. Very quiet inside. When applying brakes sometimes there is a very annoying click, dealer said was standard. Desperately want a hybrid mini van, will corner the market. The best mini vans by far are Honda, and the brand new Toyota and Nissan, but far too few and prices are too high. Make a hybrid mini van in huge quantities and corner the market.

Transmission is prone to failure at 90K - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Andrew - September 4 - 9:19 pmThe 2003 purchased brand new along with a service plan for 3 years. Rides great good for long trips with the family. Transmission had a recall service done to it back in 2003 for slipping gears 2nd and 3rd. All fine till it hit 92,000 transmission totally failed and had to split the cost with Honda for a $4,000 transmission. I will not buy another Honda for this reason. Nissan Altima looks good to me.

Great if you can afford a new tranny - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Liz K. - August 2 - 9:33 amWe have only had ours for a year and a half. It has 95,000 and a DEAD transmission. Called American Honda and they told us ours has been serviced under the warranty in Feb 05. Well whatever they did only lasted 3 1/2 years and now we have a $4000+ bill for a new transmission and an Electronic Computer Unit. They told us take it to your local Honda dealer, let them diagnose and they will tell us if they can help cover any charges. Most likely if they cant help us it will be gone. We cant risk needing a new transmission every 3 1/2 years. If it werent for safety ratings Id have an American made van with a cheaper tag for parts and better service

Overall experience is ok... - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Sara - May 28 - 6:51 pmWe purchased this van in 2007, it was used but only had 40,000 miles on it. Runs very well but needs constant maintenance. We havent had any transmission probs yet but Idle Air Control Valve needs to be replaced ($300). The doors need to be cleaned and oiled regularly. Inside is very spacious. I have four kids and it fits us very well. I can even pick up my niece and bring her with me.

reliable but noisy - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By reliable but noisy - May 23 - 10:47 amI have owned this vehicle for five years now and the mileage is 152,000 miles and still no major problems. I used this to work and I commute more than 3,000 miles mostly highway a month. I changed oil every 5,000 miles and have the tires rotated every 5,000 miles too. I bought my tires at Costco, Michelin Hydroedge and tire mileage is 90,000 miles and still not worn out. Just maintain this car on schedule and you will be trouble free. I never had any transmission problem.
