The Odyssey gains an intermittent rear window wiper this year, as well as an auto up-and-down driver-side window.

Pros:
  • Excellent crash test scores, huge interior, fold-flat third-row seat, powerful V6, optional navigation and entertainment system.
Cons:
  • Quality of some interior materials could be better, high demand limits negotiating possibilities.

  • The best van, but .......... - 2003 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I recently took delivery of a 2003 EX with the rear entertainment and agree with the critics that it is the best minivan available. It is hard to believe that others have not copied the disappearing rear seat. The vehicle has many annoying shortcomings though. Steering wheel controls are not lit at night. The steering wheel is not leather covered. The door locks are not automatic. No passenger power seat is availble. The car has no compass or outside thermometer.

Had to bring in for service of alignment. Aligment is still below par. I am very disappointed in the steering. Van pulls to the right constantly.

  • overrated! - 2003 Honda Odyssey

The strong points of this van are capable handling and excellent braking. From there on its all down hill. The ride is firm bordering on harsh. Build quality is so so. The middle seats are easy to form into a bench seat or to remove. Good design and comfortable seats. There is alot of road noise transfer into the interior at highway speeds. Also plenty of tire sound slapping uneven pavement joints. A/C system is poor in comparison to my old Toyota Sienna. The air intake for recycling the cooled air is poorly placed next to the drivers right leg. Wonderful feeling if you have arthritic knees! Would not buy another one.

  • Noisy but nice - 2003 Honda Odyssey

Just had to have one and now that I do, Im enjoying the ride. Its a bit more noisy than I would prefer though. The 02 Camry I traded in was a lot quieter. The ride is somewhat harsh with bumps and general road conditions felt much more than you would expect from a van with this price tag. The seats are very comfortable and the roomy interior is just what is needed. The road trips have been enjoyable and I look forward to many more. All in all a great van.

  • Transmission trouble - 2003 Honda Odyssey

At 96,000 miles the transmission failed, $4700 later and Honda wont cover it! Unbelievable, we took excellent care of this van and had hoped it would last MUCH longer. I wont buy another Honda.

  • Happy with Honda - 2003 Honda Odyssey

Needed to respond based on the reviews of some grouchy drivers not happy with their Odysseys. Have had my Odyssey since new. Very little trouble (125k mi). Good power when needed, but decent gas mileage (18-20) for a people mover. With 4 growing boys, have thought about moving up to a Yukon XL. Nothing against the GMC but there are a ton of used ones for sale. Not many used Odysseys. People are happy with them and keep them.

  • Transmission Problems..... - 2003 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I think that I have always had a problem with this cars transmission, but it is completely gone at 116,000 miles. New tranny ect. $6600.00!!!!! I thought I would have this car forever, but now I will probably buy a Mazda or a Toyota).

  • Good but not perfect - 2003 Honda Odyssey

I like my Oddysey ,but after 30000 miles I have started to have problems with transmission. At dealership I have been told that maintenance should fix a problem, which really helped for another 9000 miles.I believe that transmission is the only problem (2001 model). Otherwise this minivan is perfect.

  • Not what I expected - 2003 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I purchased my 2003 Honda Odyssey as a certified used car and thank GOD it came with an extended warranty. I have been experiencing various transmission issues. When taken to the dealer they claim not to be able to find any issue. This week as I was on my way to work the car popped out of gear, the engine revved wildly, the check engine light and traction control lights came on and stayed on. Took it to the dealer and at 64957 miles the transmission is dead. Chrysler took a beating over transmission failures on their minivans. Its time Honda acknowledges that this design has some serious issues. I used to consider myself a loyal Honda owner. No MORE.
