This Year's Model Updates:

The Odyssey gains an intermittent rear window wiper this year, as well as an auto up-and-down driver-side window.

Pros:
  • Excellent crash test scores, huge interior, fold-flat third-row seat, powerful V6, optional navigation and entertainment system.
Cons:
  • Quality of some interior materials could be better, high demand limits negotiating possibilities.

  • Over paid Odyssey - 2003 Honda Odyssey

Nice vehicle, wish it was quieter. I rented a 02 sienna the last year for a trip and could talk without raising my voice. Over rough roads, pretty noisy. I even had $1200 soundproofing done but it needs to be designed from the ground up. This on top of $1000 over list.

  • Brakes Failed - 2003 Honda Odyssey

Weve loved our Odyssey for the past year except the brakes failed at 15000 miles.Suddenly the pedal went to the floor while driving. Apparently a defect in the braking system and the master cylinder.

  • 2001 EX - 2003 Honda Odyssey

25K on my EX now. No problems, but the same is true of my 2001 Gran Prix w/ 37K-I think you can assume good build quality these days. With the exception of the fold in 3rd seat, this is not as pleasant or well designed a vehicle as the two Chrysler minivans I have owned. The sound system is especailly diappointing. A gas hog. My Chryslers did not age gracefully however, and if this van does, its worth it. If you trade after 2-4 yrs. go with the Chrysler. If not, give the Honda a look. If I had to do it again, I would have bought the less expensive LX model (the power sliding doors arent worth it) and gotten a good aftermarket CD player.

  • Got problems with the power door - 2003 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I bought the 2003 EX in late November. Within the first couple of weeks, we noticed the passenger side power door has been acting strange. Sometimes the door would close by itself, sometimes it would stop in the middle during closing, sometimes it would not close at all. The scariest moment was that the door started to close by itself when my wife was in the process of loading our infant son on his car seat. She literally had to jump out of the way and almost dropped our son. She got freaked out and refused to put the baby in the van. She feels safer by driving her trustly 94 Camry. I think the vehicle has been grossly overrated.

  • Better than a Chrysler product by miles! - 2003 Honda Odyssey
    By -

The 3.5 V6 is really peppy and xmission shifts smoothly, but drops into overdrive (5th gear) a little too soon. very comfortable - a real pleasure to travel in. A lot of city driving will kill the mileage, as will a lead foot! We get 22-23 with mixed city/hwy and have gotten as much as 27 on pure highway driving. The flat cornering and very short turning radius make driving and handling a pleasure.

  • Still beats the Toyota - 2003 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I waited 2 years to buy the 2004 Sienna b/c I wanted the third row split seat and assumed the Toyota would be miles better than the "aging" Honda. WRONG! The Siennas a marshmellow, soft ride, mushy brakes, wallowing steering, seasick suspension. Both my wife and I felt the same after our long test drive. The Honda is by far the better drivers car. F1 feel in a minivan!
