This Year's Model Updates:

The BMW 3 Series sedan and wagon have been completely redesigned for 2006. Major highlights include new features, more powerful engines, a slightly larger interior and the incorporation of BMW's latest exterior styling elements. The 3 Series coupe and convertible are unchanged this year but will eventually move over to the new platform being used for the sedan and wagon; expect to see a new hardtop convertible for the 2008 model year.

Pros:
  • Still the standard when it comes to perfectly sorted vehicle dynamics, high-quality interior materials, wide range of configurations to suit any style, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Still costs more than most of its competitors, lacking in interior storage space.

The sport suspension is too firm for highways and city streets riddled with pot holes and bumps. Too stiff for a daily commute, but not bad for a weekend drive with twists and turns. The interior is plain, cold and somewhat stifled. The cup holders are too small and not deep enough. Turning the corner could knock your coffee onto your leather seats and stain the carpet. Plus, the drivers cup holder is on the passengers side. Simply put, ill interior design. I would expect more luxury from this brand for the price and reliability and longevity.

  • Sweet Ride - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Great car! 20K miles now and no problems. I love the run-flats but you wont, if you want a cushy ride. My dealer DID repair one with a nail hole and tires are wearing well. At least 5K left on them. After myriad expensive and seemingly unsolvable problems with my 99 Saab 9-5, this is welcome change and when my lease expires Im torn between buy-out and 335! I think seats are very comfortable and Im tall (64", 200).

Wow. First beemer, but not my last. 21K incredible miles w/very few problems (rear lamp bulb & drivers side mirror motor). Smooth engine and auto transmission, shifts "like butter." Responsive... just point and shoot... it goes where you aim. 25K miles on the run flat Continentals and they look like theyll last to 50K+. Not sure why so many RFT complaints. Radio, Bluetooth, Homelink are flawless. Did I mention this car drives like a dream. Havent met an on- or exit-ramp I didnt like. Need to merge ahead of that 18-wheeler doing 80MPH, just floor it and drive, the lane now belongs to you.

I love this car. I traded in my 2001 325i for a similar 2006 with the sports package and manual transmission. I got black interior this time and it does show hand oil and smudges. So that can get a little annoying. But overall this is an amazing car.

  • 330i, a class act - 2006 BMW 3-Series

All the things that make a sport sedan what it should be, the BMW330i has cornered and presented in a beautiful package. It never saw a curve that it didnt like and can run forever in the triple digits.

  • Fun to drive... to the service center - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I have enjoyed driving this car, but I have had many issues with reliability on what would be considered to be "small" items. All 4 window motors have been replaced. The electronics on the front right side all stopped working. Squeaky dashboard. The front grille flew off when I was doing 65 MPH. I have had the car for 2.5 years and its been in the shop 11 times... which is about 10 times more than the 1994 model that I drove for years. I also got caught in the run flat tire fiasco. Trust me, if you push the dealer hard enough then BMW USA will replace them @ no charge. In my case, they had records where I had been complaining about the quality of the ride since the 2nd day I owned the car.

  • Run Flat Tires - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I love the car except the run flat tires , had to be replaced at 17K sounded like a dump truck, Transmission makes a whining noise. Handles like a dream, excellent braking and good service and warranty.

  • Last "classic" (e46) 3 series converts. - 2006 BMW 3-Series

What a great car! Its a "keeper" for sure. "ZHP" Performance Pkg (+$3900) makes the difference. Handles better than its Miata predecessor, and is waaay more comfortable. Sure its not a 300 hp twin turbo powerhouse. But its such a balanced drive, perfectly mating the 3 liter 6 (235 hp) to the chassis and "M" suspension components. With the 6 spd. manual, weve seen 32 mpg when were forced to cruise down an Interstate. The final iteration of the E46 body, nicely rounded off (vs the angularity of E90s) just seems more appealing to the eye and the overall timelessness of the shape. Get one, if youre at all considering it!

  • One of the best - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I recently purchased a 2006 BMW 330i with the sport and premium packages as well as an automatic transmission. I love this car. My only disappointment is the initial acceleration. This could be due to the automatic however once the engine is at a high RPM, the car flies!. I floored it to 100mph and it was amazing. I strongly recommend this car. The build quality is great and the comfort level is top-notch. The fuel economy could have been better but overall this car will not disappoint! Firm steering, excellent handling, BLUETOOTH!!! Excellent brakes, adaptive headlights, "will not roll backwards on a hill" feature. This car is amazing.
