This Year's Model Updates:

The BMW 3 Series sedan and wagon have been completely redesigned for 2006. Major highlights include new features, more powerful engines, a slightly larger interior and the incorporation of BMW's latest exterior styling elements. The 3 Series coupe and convertible are unchanged this year but will eventually move over to the new platform being used for the sedan and wagon; expect to see a new hardtop convertible for the 2008 model year.

Pros:
  • Still the standard when it comes to perfectly sorted vehicle dynamics, high-quality interior materials, wide range of configurations to suit any style, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Still costs more than most of its competitors, lacking in interior storage space.

  • European Delivery - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Picked up in Munich - drove 1 mo in Germany, Italy, & Switz during the World Cup. Only options: Sports & Cold Weather Packs (no iDrive). Car handled well typically driving 90-115 mph (Autobahn). Steering weight - just right (backed off @ 130 mph - front end felt light - the added height of the "xi"? ) Brakes fantastic. 6 spd man./ clutch operation were just right. Averaged 24.6 mpg - 3,850 miles with a full load (4) . The 325xi w/the manual had good enough "pop" to keep up w/95% of the Autobahn (PS. Navi - would not drive in Europe without iDrive or a GPS. I had a Nuvi 350 w/memory card of Europe in lieu of iDrive/Nav. It was awesome & ran sitting on the console!)

  • Great Car but Uncomfortable Seats - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I wanted to provide a quick word of caution to anyone in the market for a BMW - thoroughly test the seats before you buy! I absolutely love the performance, handling and features of the BMW 330i, even the much maligned iDrive. I found the seats unbearable though and was thus forced to sell the car after only one month. The seats were just too stiff for me and would cause pain in my lower back and the right side of my hip. I am young, health guy of average size and weight (510/170 lbs), so ordinarily comfort is not an issue. My girlfriend and mom found the car perfectly comfortable, so perhaps the seats are a better fit for smaller folks. Such a shame, as I otherwise loved the car

  • Good deal - 2006 BMW 3-Series

This car in 2006 was overall the best value I could get. I test drove Lexus IS 250 and Acura TL which both have nicer interior layout. However, to get comparably equipped vehicle (leather, power seats, automatic, xenon lights) I would end up paying $2K - $3K more for them. Besides, BMW has smarter transmission and higher torque at lower RPMs that well compensates for lower horsepower, and a better feeling drive line. So, in all, it is a fun to drive car, performing somewhat better than competition and at a better price, plus the maintenance is included. I have never regretted getting it! P.S. Its OEM tires were awful, and I needed to replace them at 18K miles.

  • ONE SWEET RIDE!!! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

This car is a great daily drive. Its sporty and luxurious. Also get great gas mileage for the powerful engine it has.

  • Cheaper over the long run - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I bought this car in June 05 and I thought I made a mistake as it was probably the first car that rolled off the assembly plant. I was mistaken, I had similar problems like everyone with the tires, but I replaced with dealer-recommended Continental which are run-flat as well. The car is much better and longer tire tread, I have almost 40K miles, and dont have anything to complain about. Ive been driving GMs all my life, but was getting sick & tired of dealership services and not to mention the poor quality. When I bought this car, I decided to treat myself for a nice ride. I will definitely buy another BMW.

The car has not disappointed me. Once you put your foot on gas it shoots like a rocket. The handling, turning and braking is superb. Ride is actually very smooth even though i have Sport package. The iDrive is also easy to use. Seats are pretty comfortable too.

  • Not a bad ride! - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I really like this car, but I was well aware of most of its flaws before purchasing--so do your homework! It handles better than any car Ive ever driven (had Audi S4 before this)! Its got good acceleration than in years past (although slower than the S4). The audio system sounds about like what youd expect for a car in this price range. The iDrive isnt nearly as bad as everyone has said, but you must spend a few hours with the ops manual AS SOON AS YOU GET THE CAR - or at least soon after to enjoy all of its features. The NAV works pretty well, and the cd plays mp3s. However, whatever CD you have in plays continuously-the "off" button is only a "mute" button, so it keeps spinning.

  • Ultimate driving machine - 2006 BMW 3-Series

This one is the real deal. Power, handling, go in the snow, secure all conditions, great design, has been great to lease, will get another this fall

  • One month review - 2006 BMW 3-Series

I love the car. Was reluctant to get rid of 98 A4 (6 Cyl) but after a few weeks, no second thoughts. 325 is so easy to drive, handles great, shifts great, and I find myself driving on highway at much higher speeds than ever before. I regret no European delivery or going for upgraded stereo. Would love car just as much without seat power options.

  • Ready to buy a Mercedes - 2006 BMW 3-Series

Run flat tires are terrible had I been informed of expected mileage I would not have purchased as not everyone sells them and/or authorized to install. Run flats also create a very stiff and rough ride. BMWs all-inclusive service of 4 yr/50,000 miles is a joke: 3 oil changes is what is basically guaranteed as they do not rotate run flat tires, and first major service does not include wheel alignment! I traded-in a 2000 323i with over 150K miles, and wish I would have kept it.
