This Year's Model Updates:

The big news is the arrival of the A4 Cabriolet, a fetching drop-top version of the A4 sedan. Initially, the company will offer only one drivetrain choice -- front-wheel drive with the 3.0-liter V6 engine and continuously variable transmission. Expect to see a 1.8T version midway through the model year and a 3.0 quattro Cab by October 2003. No word yet on the possibility of a manual transmission. As if this weren't enough, Audi plans to release a coupe version of the A4 in early 2003. The rest of the A4 lineup benefits from equipment upgrades. Leather is now optional on all 1.8T models, as are 12-way power front seats. All 3.0s will come swathed in leather, with more deluxe leather optional. Previous stand-alone options for the 3.0, including xenons and satellite steering wheel controls, have been swept up into the Premium Package. A new cold weather package includes seat heaters and a ski sack, and 17-inch all-season tires are a stand-alone extra.

Pros:
  • Available all-wheel drive, classy interiors laden with amenities, stable handling.
Cons:
  • Price goes up quickly with options, engines a little short on low-end torque.

Dealer gave us an unnecessary hassle when qualifying for financing. The automatic transmission coupled with the turbo lag of the 1.8T engine is kind of quirky... it doesnt increase power right away when you press the accelerator (should have gone with the manual shift). Other than that its a very nice car, no mechanical issues (yet), AWD is excellent and it handles very well aside from the above quirkiness.

...becase this car is LEMON Since I purchased this car it has been towed three seperate times to the dealer for repairs. The first two times were due to faulty ignition coils. The nail in the coffin was the last time it was towed due to a spun rod bearing due to low oil pressure caused by what I was told is a not uncommon issue with the 1.8T. In addition the car has been brought half a dozen times due to other minor defects.

  • Love my car.....but....things to know - 2003 Audi A4

I love my audi and will say that it drives the same as the day I bought it (with 8800 miles on it). With that said, repairs are expensive so you should know that. Find a good VW or Audi mechanic and dont use your dealership as they are a rip off. Here are some things I have paid for on my car with 86K miles on it. At 43K a new clutch....70K a new timing belt, spark plugs, and water pump, front breaks at 72K and rear breaks at $77K.....82K catalytic converter, 85K miles suspension arms, etc. In the last year I have put $5,000 in my audi and plan to keep it for another 80K miles. My mechanic has been great and lesson learned is after the warranty was up I should have found a mechanic.

I have only recently traded my 1998 A4 and am mesmerized by the new engine and the incredible interior ergonomics and Quality. This is truly a better version of the previous generation A4.

  • Perfect combination ... - 2003 Audi A4

I have owned several convertibles from Triumphs to Mercedes, I have never had one as perfect as the Audi A4 Cabrio. Imagine a car that treats you well when cruising the boulevard and at the same time lets you throw it into a corner at heart pounding speeds. A car that handles like a sports car but lets you take 3 friends along for the ride. Ar car that makes your 10 wife look like an 11 and gets you all the looks you need. PERFECT.

  • Beware the 2003 Audi A4 4WD - 2003 Audi A4

I purchased 2 2003 Audi A4s at the same time. Just as the warranty expired, similar defects appeared in both cars. In just over two years, almost everything has gone wrong with both cars. They are both lemons. The Audi dealership we went to charged me almost $3K for 2 visits in which they couldnt diagnose the problem. The turbo exploded 2 weeks ago in one of them and damaged the engine in the process. Both cars are a money pit, and I am attempted to dump both & absorb the loss. Audi corporate apologized for my frustration & loss & asked if there was anything else they could do today. DONT BUY THESE CARS!!!!

  • a creature of comfort - 2003 Audi A4

The 03 Audi A4 has been a blast to drive. One word-QUATTRO! I do not think I will buy another car without AWD. Audi design is impressive. Very nice interiors. Excellent paint finishes. The 3.0 has hussle, but may be less impressive at low torque. Cons: Brakes squeek, interior wind noise at higher speeds 70-80mph. Overall awesome! Wish I had the S4!

Ive had (and loved)a 3 series BMW, but this car is even more fun to drive. The Quattro AWD gives the car a feeling of adhesion to the road thats amazing.
