This Year's Model Updates:

The big news is the arrival of the A4 Cabriolet, a fetching drop-top version of the A4 sedan. Initially, the company will offer only one drivetrain choice -- front-wheel drive with the 3.0-liter V6 engine and continuously variable transmission. Expect to see a 1.8T version midway through the model year and a 3.0 quattro Cab by October 2003. No word yet on the possibility of a manual transmission. As if this weren't enough, Audi plans to release a coupe version of the A4 in early 2003. The rest of the A4 lineup benefits from equipment upgrades. Leather is now optional on all 1.8T models, as are 12-way power front seats. All 3.0s will come swathed in leather, with more deluxe leather optional. Previous stand-alone options for the 3.0, including xenons and satellite steering wheel controls, have been swept up into the Premium Package. A new cold weather package includes seat heaters and a ski sack, and 17-inch all-season tires are a stand-alone extra.

Pros:
  • Available all-wheel drive, classy interiors laden with amenities, stable handling.
Cons:
  • Price goes up quickly with options, engines a little short on low-end torque.

Just purchased an Audi A4 3.0 after driving a VW Passat for 3 years. So far, I am very pleased with all this car has to offer. Performance wise, I think it is among the top in its class. It is extremely comfortable, although this may not be the case for rear passengers. The interior is ultra luxurious, and the exterior is classy. However, I do think the navigation system on the A4s need much improvement. (You only get an arrow to tell you which direction you need to go).

  • Poor CVT Reliability - 2003 Audi A4

The problem is that the CVT transmission is a sealed, closed design and cant be rebuilt or fixed. A replacement transmission costs about $8000 installed. Not worth keeping out of warranty.

  • Fun car! But very expensive to fix! - 2003 Audi A4

First A4, owned 2.5 years now. Very fun to drive, Quattro makes it handle like a dream. Very good in slippery weather. 60K regular service cost $700 at Audi dealer. 3 months later car needed all 4 brakes to pass state inspection $950! rotors must be replaced at each brake job (every 30K to 40K depending on how you drive). 2 months after brake job Bose stereo quit working. Not covered under CPO extended warranty $1700. Very expensive to own after original 50K warranty expires!

  • Disappointing Audi - 2003 Audi A4

My 03 A4 1.8T Quattro (53K miles) is constantly in the shop. The dealership once forgot to change the oil during scheduled maintenance, forcing a breakdown on 95. Another time, the oil pump failed, again forcing a breakdown on 95. Further, separate fuel coils have failed, forcing two additional breakdowns on the highway. Aside from reliability, the A4 1.8T Quattro is a sluggish car (although it handles nicely in bad weather). I previously owned an A4 and had similar issues. While this car looks good inside and out, its reliability is unsatisfactory, to put it mildly. I will never buy an Audi again, and I urge you to exercise caution before purchasing one.

Well built car. It is a bargain at its price. Well equipped. A very capable vehicle.

Great Car! If you like performance drivin, do not expect the Gas mileage posted. Also I find my back a little after extended driving time. And what did audi think by offering ONLY manual seats. The sports Package with the 17in wheels is a must at only $1000

I bought my A4 and immediatly drove it the 1600 miles home. The car was so comfortable my passanger and I barely noticed driving over 8 hours a day. It handles wonderfully in rain and snow. I got the premium package and cold weather package for around 28k, great deal!

  • Audi won out over BMW 3 series and Saab - 2003 Audi A4
    By -

For years Id dreamed of a BMW . . .then I could actually afford one. When I went car shopping, I loved the BMW but the newly designed Saab caught my eye. They both lost my vote after I drove the A4 Quattro. The car simply handled more smoothly and hugged the road even in wet conditions. Been driving it now for 3000 miles and still thrilled with it.

  • This car Rocks! - 2003 Audi A4

This is a great car! Plenty of get up and go and dont even try to pass it on the interstate. I was torn between the 04 Saab 9-3 and the Audi. I wound up buying this one with 6000 miles on it and the audi certification. The car has everthing I wanted except a manual transmission. The cars assembly has been flawless. The interior is exceedingly quiet with the top up and reasonably quite with the top down. It comfortably fits my 9 & 10 yr old in the back seat and the trunk has more room that it first looks like. Easily fits 2 bags of golf clubs or suitcases. Highly recommended car!

  • Quick, powerful and fun! - 2003 Audi A4
    By -

This car is a dream! Four years and it has never been in the shop for anything but a service. Its fast, its fun, it has a great gear box and great heated seats in the winter. The 4WD takes it over mounds of snow without a wimper. The only thing wrong with it is that it only gets 20 MPG in combined driving and takes premium gasoline.
