Overview & Reviews
The 237-hp R32 makes its debut for 2004 complete with a six-speed manual transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive. The GTI sports restyled 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels. There's also a new fuel cap warning light.
- Potent R32 model, fun to drive, reasonably priced, lots of standard equipment, premium cabin materials, utility of hatchback design, available six-speed manual.

Great German Car/Great price - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By chade - December 24 - 10:00 amThis car is unbeliveable!! You get all the stuff at a great price. I was looking for luxury performance without the price & Volkswagen did it. Wow what a great car.

Have your cake and eat it too - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By bobbyjim - December 24 - 10:00 amThis car offers a great blend of safety, economy and performance. The interior is well designed and very ergonomic. The car is deceptively fast, and passes in 6th gear are effortless at highway speeds. Economy is good, with 30MPG using regular grade gas. Safety features, handling and brakes are up to the engine in the car, which is not the case in competing Honda or Nissan products. It is hard for me to think of a more balanced vehicle.

Fantastic car despite some problems - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By bradleyland - August 22 - 2:00 amSince the day I drove my off the lot, I have enjoyed every moment behind the wheel. The ride is stiff enough to provide a sporty feel, but doesnt punish you over less than perfect roads. I chose the VR6 because of its smooth, quite operation. The addition of two cylinders goes a long way toward smoothness. This is especially noticeable when you start the car in the morning. My only complaint would be the fact that Ive had a few problems even though I normally have very good "car luck", as I call it. I still enjoy the car so much that I donÂ’t mind the fact that itÂ’s spent a total of maybe 5 days at the dealer since I purchased it. IÂ’d still recommend this car highly!

VW GTI - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By altimateimports - July 30 - 2:13 pmOverall, this is a great car. The engine is smooth and powerful. And the car feels very solid. A little too much performance is sacrificed for comfort.

Tons O Fun - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By V-DUB - January 15 - 2:00 amI just picked up a Reflex Silver/Black Cloth Interior, 17" wheels, Luxury Package, Cold Weather Package--The Lux Package & Cold Weather Package were a bonus as they could not locate a GTI with black cloth and 17" wheels. Wow! What a Car. Handles like a dream. Great on gas. Super cool European Styling. A real value. Fun to drive, distinctive looking. And my transaction with Attatamian VW/ Honda was the best by far on any new car purchase. I have had 5 new car purchases in the last 10 years. Ask for Joe Abernathy--Great guy. Hell get you what you want, at a reasonable price.

Bangin for the Buck - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By DubWise - January 9 - 3:43 amI purchased my 04 in May of 04. Immediately installed a chip. Noticeable jump to 215 horses still with good gas milage. Excellent handling I take turns confidently well above the posted mph (have to know the car and its limits). K&N Also a must. Easily modifiable without going into the engine block. Was going to buy a BMW. Wife has 328 5 spd. Believe it or not I like my GTI more. May still buy a 5 series or a 3 convertible but a VW may still be in the future. I would buy VW again. Knock on wood, no mechanical failure. Did have a sun roof problem resolved and under warranty.

It does nothing wrong - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By clarkma5 - September 24 - 7:06 amIve had my 04 GTI since it was new and Ive just ticked over the 80k mark (this is my second GTI, after a 02 Tiptronic). It has never once had a mechanical or electrical problem. Ive done just about everything in it...5 people and their stuff, track days, commuting, long road trips, backroad drives, snow, rain, sun, traffic, moving...short of towing or off-roading theres nothing it doesnt do competently or better. Its such a delightfully well-built car, its no surprise that VW didnt actually profit from the MkIV Golf. Yes maintenance is important, but isnt it with every car? Do it on schedule and its unbeatable!

The Best Original Sports Hatchback! - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By UK73 - August 24 - 10:00 amMore power than I expected, especially in the 3000-5000 RPM range. Build quality is very good for the price. Added a K&N air filter, a nice noticeable upgrade for less than $50.00, + tons of other aftermarket stuff available. Couldnt justify $10K more for the R32, the VR6 has plenty of torque and the handling is very solid, even without the AWD.
