Overview & Reviews
The 237-hp R32 makes its debut for 2004 complete with a six-speed manual transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive. The GTI sports restyled 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels. There's also a new fuel cap warning light.
- Potent R32 model, fun to drive, reasonably priced, lots of standard equipment, premium cabin materials, utility of hatchback design, available six-speed manual.

Worst Car Ive ever owned - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By Sylvan - April 20 - 10:43 pmIm the second owner of this car and have had it a little over a year. It has no gaps in the service history, and has always been dealer-serviced. So far, the fuse box, both electric fans, and the transmission have failed (bearing). Total cost not covered under warranty? $4,000. My Ford Maverick was more reliable than this car! My Subaru has 130,000 miles on it and has never had a part fail!! Save yourself, and dont buy this or any other VW. For Gods sake its the 21st Century and they cant make a transmission last 65,000 miles!!!

Fun to drive - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By Lane - March 16 - 3:06 pmI have owned this car since last July, i have owned one other VW in my time, and this is a contiuned experience in the ultimate fun, comfort, reliabilty and all around excellent car experience. I couldnt possibly think about going back to another brand after this. What other company can boast such a family like following. The aftermarket makes it such a pleasure to work on and make this little car your own. You couldnt possibly get bored with this VW. Just get a subscription to EuroTuner Mag and your brain will be filled with the possiblities. you wont even have to break your bank. and many you can do by yourself. So try it out, performance, comfort, luxury. its got it all!

1.8T GTi - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By ABarr412 - September 20 - 2:00 amThe VW GTi is an exciting car for a daily driver. The stock GTi gives you decent handling and a good amount of ponies under the hood, which makes it the fun car it is.

Original hatch is still hot - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By Auggie6 - September 20 - 2:00 amNo other hatch performs or feels as good to drive as the Gti. Even after 25 years VW still knows how to get it done with the styling, performance and the quality of craftmanship. No other hatch can compete with the power of the Gti VR6 nor can they compare to the big car comfort of this small hatch. R32 with its AWD and bigger 240hp engine will compete with subarus WRX STI and Mitsubishis new AWD lancer

fast and ugly - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By fubar - September 4 - 6:13 amThis has got to be the ugliest car I have ever owned!! However, this little car will pass almost anything on the road. I picked up the car with 7k miles (it now has 60k) and have had no problems, even after having the computer, exhaust and intake re-worked for more power. It loves to be punished! Loads of interior room is a bonus for such a small car. This is my first vw and I must say Im impressed. Fuel economy is great if you keep your foot out of the turbo, but what fun is that?

D*mn near perfect - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By godfathr609 - May 9 - 2:00 amThis is the best car you can buy for $20,000. Its got performance, quality, a long list of standard features, and a solid grip on the road. Mine is still stock but many plans for this car that will make it an ultimate street racers. With minor modifications you can easily touch horsepower numbers of 250 and with high modifications, easily over 300 hp. The best part is, all those lil civics roll up dont think its got balls, till it eats them up!

Fun car - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By my1stVW - May 9 - 2:00 amExcellent car! Unfortunately, I hit an ugly pothole. The hole was so deep that my entire right wheel was destroyed. Took it back to the dealership, they had to order the rim from Germany. Its going to take 2 weeks to see the wheel since they dont have any stateside. Other than that, its fun little car and I drive it everyday to and from work.

Not what I expected - 2004 Volkswagen GTI
By greg - May 5 - 7:10 pmBought the car because I knew this car had great potential. However after 600 miles the car had problems starting. As well as a lot of other little electrical gremlins. Took it in and they said it was because I had installed an aftermarket cd player?!?! VW fixed the problem but I am scared to touch the car now. Wish I never bought it. In stock form it just sucks. I have also had problems with it randomly stalling at a red light when I turn on the a/c, a rough idle and window problems. With only 5000 miles on the car Im looking to get rid of it! I will probably never buy a vw again.
