Overview & Reviews
A four-door version and a new Fahrenheit trim joins the VW GTI lineup for 2007. Other than that, changes are minor, as VW's hot hatch was redesigned midway through 2006. Updates include a slightly lower ride height, restyled alloy wheels, standard launch control for the DSG transmission, a standard tire-pressure monitor and simplified cruise-control actuation. On the audio front, there's a new standard auxiliary input jack and an optional Apple iPod-specific adapter.
- Hatchback utility, upscale features and interior design, strong turbocharged engine, optional sequential-shifting DSG gearbox.
- Higher price than those of its competitors, handling nimbleness dulled by beefy curb weight.

After Many Test Drives: The Winner! - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By J.S. Sumner - November 5 - 5:33 pmMy son and I test drove eight different cars in the $20,000 to $25,000 price range and we both felt that hands down, the 4-door GTI was the winner. Many auto magazines felt the same. The quality inside and out, the safety (me), and the performance (him) won us over. I have owned German performance cars and this GTI has many of those factors. The DSG transmission is a major advancement in performance and to be in a car at this price point is hard to believe. Graduation from college has come and gone and this GTI will be with my son for many fun filled and safe years to come.

2007 Volkswagen GTI - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By chris - November 1 - 1:00 amI have had a GTI for many years, including the MKIV and recently the MKV. The 2.0T motor is extremely powerful, much more so than the 1.8T was. The DSG transmission makes a world of difference.

My 100 Point Car - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By myjoiseygti - September 27 - 7:06 amI wanted to trade down from a Passat and was interested a sport hatch. Looked at Mini Cooper, Mazda3 5 door and Audi A3 as well as Acura TSX. The GTI 5 door is the A3 without the steep price tag and the roof-length sunroof. This car is tremendous value. If you want leather, youll pay about the same as you would for the Acura. Stick to the traditional plaid cloth, its not only retro, its comfortable and durable.

The GTI is Back! - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By Californian - September 24 - 11:10 amThis car is brand new, so I dont yet know about mileage and reliability. However the EPA figures are fine and everything works. There are no rattles. What a fantastic little car! It looks great inside and out, handles well and has excellent power. I chose a white, two-door six speed with a sunroof and leather. It also has the built-in Sirius radio. The DSG transmission would also be a good choice. I have the 18" wheels with aggressive tires. The ride would be a bit better with the all-seasons. Sure, the GTI is not exactly inexpensive, but its a lot of car for the money. I looked at and drove a lot of cars, including the Mazdaspeed 3, and the GTI was for me.

GTI ist der fun! - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By zenmoose - August 30 - 8:20 pmGreat design and drivability are the hallmarks of this sporty hatch. Mechanically it is still going strong as it approaches the 40K mark. The A/C failed, however, though it was replaced under warranty (took 2 tries!) Aluminum pedals are great, as is the premium stereo (after re-flash). Visibility out the back slightly poor. Biggest problem: 18" Huffs EAT TIRES! I have replaced numerous tires due to Pennsy potholes and had rims straightened once. Ouch! Buy a 17" wheel for the sake of the extra sidewall. Noisy rough ride just reminds you why you like to hang onto that fat padded wheel so tightly at speed. Great lines! I have thought about trading it when the warranty is over, but....

A Manual in an Automatics Clothing - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By yuray - July 24 - 5:03 amThe DSG transmission is awesome. Somehow (maybe double clutch) it smooths out driving at low speeds while retaining the juice. It feels taut inside (apparently it is assembled in Germany in contrast to almost all other VW models). Unfortunately, the stereo display is third world and the Sirius trial is worthless because you only have a sample of channels. The sunroof could be bigger. The interior trim is spare, bordering on cheap. I see part of the reason why the A3 goes for more. I have the cloth, which is alright, but the seats dont feel like theyd treat me well on a long drive. I am glad that I chose the 4-door. It is not bigger than the 2-door, but seems to get more out of the rear row while maintaining near identical trunk space.

Superb Vehicle - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By Murray - July 22 - 1:23 pmOrdered my GTI to get all the features I desired (took 4 months from order to delivery). The GTI is a joy to drive. DSG transmission is flawless. Switches and controls feel particularly solid. Experience only minor turbo lag (when engine accelerates from less than ~2000 rpm). Above 2000 rpm you feel like youre in a rocket! While car can take regular gas, performance is clearly enhanced with premium. After 1200 miles, getting 26-27 mpg for mostly highway driving (75-80 mph). Car is very quiet at speed. Optional 17 inch low profile all season tires are significantly less stiff than the summer tires. Excellent integration of radio and nav system with instrument panel display.

Best Buy for Your Money - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By Sasha - June 29 - 6:13 amThis is the best GTI ever. It is so much fun to drive. It has amazing handling. If you are over 40 years old - stay away from 18" tires - they make the ride too rough. If you dont want to spend on winter tires and change them before every winter - stay away from 18" tires. Other than that, this is probably the most bang for your buck in a long time.

Reliable, Great Value All-Rounder - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By boba380 - May 30 - 6:23 amBought my 2007 4-door GTI as a CPO in 2009 with 35k miles. Have put about 20k miles on it in approx 2 years. Havent had any issues with the car since owning it other than expected maintenance, also not with higher-than-normal tire-wear (even with an occasionally heavy right foot...). Car has leather, sat-nav, sunroof, DSG, sport steering wheel with controls, factory 18" wheels. Even now, the cars very nimble, snug seats and the direct steering feedback make it exceptionally great fun to drive! The folding rear seats make it roomier than expected (hello Ikea). The DSG shifts super-fast when accelerating, but displays lag during kick-down.Bad: old nav is slow, road noise, occasional rattle.

Best all-around car Ive ever owned - 2007 Volkswagen GTI
By Thomas - April 23 - 6:03 amThe perfect size car for city driving, FUN to drive, beautiful high quality interior, very comfortable sport seats, great customer service from my dealer & absolutely no reliability or repair issues. The hatchback & fold- down seats are very convenient. I have driven this car since new for almost 4 years now. It is the longest I have ever kept a car & its one of my favorites. I have owned German, American, English & Japanese brands. In more affluent times, I have owned 2 Mercedes SLs & 5 BMWs. The Japanese are known for reliability, but the Germans win hands down for superior engineering & driving fun. I am shocked how much I continue to enjoy this GTI
