Overview & Reviews
America's best-selling minivan is all new for 2001, with many industry-first features including a power rear tailgate, a power sliding door obstacle detection system, and a removable and powered center console, and a pop-up rear cargo organizer, all residing under sleek new sheetmetal.
- Lots of new options, torquey engines, car-like driving characteristics, improved safety features.
- Still no stowable third seat, gets pricey when options are added, legroom in second-row seats.

Transmission at 21000 - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Pags - November 11 - 10:00 amWe needed a trasmission overhaul at 21000 miles. Unfortunately the 36 month timeclock had expired and we were stuck with the entire bill. Use caution when considering this vehicle.

Worst Car Ever - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By No more Dodges - October 27 - 9:13 pmWe bought this because Dodge was supposed to be the leader in mini- vans, but what a costly embarrassment this thing is. We replaced a transmission at 73,000 , the radio at 19,000 , one window motor and after that was fixed the other one went out. The worst part is that I could have bought a Ford with 0.0 percent and I made the mistake of buying this piece of Chrysler junk. If you buy a U.S. car stick with a Ford!

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan - Grand Indeed! - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By babirusa - October 27 - 2:26 amGot my 2001 Grand Caravan used with 50,000 miles on it, now have 165,000. It has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. Driving comfort, road performance, utility, reliability; all top notch. I replaced the stock air filter with a K&N filter at 90,000 miles, and noticed an immediate increase in fuel economy of almost 10%, as well as noticeably more power under acceleration (3.3 liter V6). Only maintenance and normal wear type expenses with this car; brakes, one set of rotors, one rear windshield washer motor, one set of anti-sway bars. It has all-original exhaust system and shocks, and has never stranded me.

Lots of problems - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By babsinga - October 9 - 4:56 amWe got this used with 24,000 on it. At 80,000 the transmission went out at 5:45 one morning on the way to work. At 90,000 the AC went out. Also replaced the window motor, 3 sets of rotors, and now it is making suspension noises and power steering pump noises. It is one thing after another. Ive spent $4000 on major repairs in the past 3 years, far less than the dealer would have charged though, because I know a good mechanic. Keep in mind, this is only a 5 year old vehicle that was $28000 to start with. It is not a reliable vehicle, but it drives well and has plenty of room, which is why we got it. Just find a good mechanic and save up some money for repairs. You will need both.

Good Looking Van - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Julie - July 29 - 7:20 amIf you need a van, I like ours. Weve had this for about 3 years. No problems except power window went out on passenger side. Average mpg 20 plus. Power is good, enough get up and go. I think its the sportiest van around.

Its been a great ride! - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By BushMom - May 15 - 2:23 amAfter 6 years of mostly city driving, my van has not missed a beat. It still looks great, runs well, and Ive had very few minor issues with it. I had 1 in 1998, which ended up the victim of a powerful rear-end collision in 2001. Because of the way the Grand Caravan took the impact, I went and bought another one in 2001. I will certainly buy again.

A problematic vehicle - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Canada Dry - February 14 - 7:00 amHaving purchaed a 1993 Dodge Caravan that gave us 8 years of trouble free service we did not hesitate to get a new one in 2001. However, while very comfortable it has proved to be a mechanically poor buy. We have purchased a new alternator, many rotors, the A/C is gone, and it now needs a new transmission, water pump, and a number of other more minor repairs. I would not recommend this vehicle I am sorry to say.

Not Happy With This One - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Stephanie - January 10 - 2:00 pmBought this at 55,000 miles. Not a bad price but a month after purchasing it the air compressor went and an electrical problem got us stuck in Chicago for 4 days. Then the air compressor went 2 more times after that. Also strange noise in the front end which I see many people complained about. Struts were hanging in the bottom when first purchased. Then this year in May the transmission went with the AWD system. Got stuck in Maryland for 2 days and had to go back down and get it after spending $2200 to fix it. Brakes going and muffler so we got rid of this one. This car cost us $15000 when purchased and we have spent $4000 on total repairs of only 2 years.

Been Very Happy - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By GH - December 3 - 5:03 amBack in 04 I purchased my 01 GC Sport with 81,000 miles on it. After 6 years it has over 200K on the clock and still runs great. No transmission troubles, just regular maintenance changing the oil and getting new tires and brakes. The 3.3 is a reliable motor and it has performed flawlessly. My only complaint with the van is the power door lock switches as they dont always work.

01 DGC EX - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Masterpaul1 - August 31 - 5:36 pmWe bought our van used in Sep. 03 with only 37K. It has been very reliable for us with only two non maintainence minor issues. Right after purchase, both front power window regulators and motors had to be replaced. Weve had some suspension work done at around 55K. Both covered under warrenty. So far, we have had to replace a gas cap, battery, and soon both rear cargo door gas lifters from being to weak to lift the cargo door in cold weather by automatic. (Will open manually with no problem). Right now we get about 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. This was a good choice for us and am very pleased with our purchase.
