Nice Early On, Then Fell Apart - 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Robert - October 3 - 9:50 amThe first 60,000 miles were trouble-free. Then we needed a new transmission ($1900). At 96,000 miles, we needed a new Transmission Control Module ($500). Now, at 98,000 miles, we apparently need a new Body Control Module (the dash is completely dead). We had the dealer trace the wiring, and try a new wiring harness. The only thing left is the BCM. However, theres no going back with this -- its programmed with our VIN, and theres no guarantee that it will fix anything. Weve decided to sell it and buy a new one. Given their long-standing problems with transmission and electrical, Id avoid the Caravan.

Epitaph for a minivan - 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan
By 70dave - September 29 - 6:16 pmBought this van for my wife to drive and as our family car. My wife has really enjoyed the van and I must admit it looks pretty good for a minivan with the rear spoiler and the alloy wheels. It even handles pretty good. We have three teenagers and the van has served the purpose well of transporting us with adequate leg room. I am 6,2" and it is not at all comfortable for the driver. There is nowhere to put your left leg due to the wheel hump. As of last week van had approx. 120,000 miles and was serviced regularly. I added transmission fluid all the time due to tranny leak so the fluid was always fresh. Same for power steering fluid and coolant. Crashed last week w/no air bags deployed. Bye van.

"meet all necessary requirements" van - 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan
By dprong - September 20 - 2:00 amLeased an 98 Plymouth Grand Voyager "Expresso" (3.3 L engine) and upon its lease expiration, I told the same salesperson who leased it at the beginning that it was the best car I ever had after driving 4 Hondas (all cars). He replied,"This 2000 Grand Caravan" (3.8L) is going to be even better. And he is damn right! Despite that this van has ran into bad luck (smashed a pregnant doe; leaving $8,000 damage and hail damage leaving $9,000 damage within 1 year!) Took it to many long trips per year to parents in laws and to Fla. A real nice cruising vehicle! Comfortable seatings

Its Good but Thirsty - 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan
By thosdd - September 7 - 10:00 amThis is a fine piece of work. The only complaint is the LOUSY mpg. I getting 16 to 17 mpg. This is not what the spec. sheet said. Other than that this van is very comfortable.

If it only had a tranny - 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan
By JimC - May 23 - 12:56 pmWe have loved this van. We have a Sport, but not AWD. I find it uncomfortable to drive long distances as a 511" man - seat way too close - but my wife loves it. Has been totally reliable for 174,000 miles, but we just blew the tranny. Guess we made out OK - other reviewers only got half that many miles out of theirs! Of course it is now worthless because the tranny will cost more to replace than the van, but if you get one with a new transmission, its a decent van!
