Overview & Reviews
The 1998 Toyota Corolla is completely redesigned this year with a new engine, new sheet metal and a new standard for safety in compact cars: optional front passenger side-impact airbags.
- All-new with a great engine, new body, and first-in-segment side-impact airbags, the 1998 Toyota Corolla is the best thing to hit the compact car market since the original VW Beetle.
- Shape is a bit dull.

great car - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By workinguy - February 5 - 10:00 ami am a very high-mileage driver. in the 8 months ive had my corolla, ive put 15000 miles on it. the ride is smooth, the engine is quiet, and the engine can give a little extra when you need it.

Mine may have been a lemon - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By thecasualgamer - January 4 - 12:07 amMine was actually a 4 speed auto, but manual was the only choice listed. I bought my Corolla in 2013, expecting it to be a cheap car that would be easy on gas, but it had problem after problem. It also had an oil burning problem. I learned a lot from this car though and it will hold value due to it being my first car ever. It was recently totaled and now I have an 02 Avalon. Heres to hoping that itll be less problematic than the Corolla.

trusty old friend - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By pedro - October 22 - 12:16 amI have driven over 280,000 miles in mostly urban traffic with some expressway also. This car is not a good long distance hauler due to its 3 speed tranny. I should have spent extra and gotten the 4 speed. Thank god they dont make those anymore. Its an excellent around town car even with all the miles I still get about 28mpg which is what the EPA says I should get. Mechanically very reliable, although lately I replaced the mounts with aftermarket units and I ruined the car. It now shakes and vibrates to the point of being intolerable to all but the shortest trips.

Love it! - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By vicenza77 - September 29 - 4:50 amBought the car used two years ago and beside regular maintenance, I have had a pleasurable experience. It is a nice looking car which has kept its value over the years.

wonderful car - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By krausaj - August 19 - 2:00 amI bought this car from a relative in 2001. She (the car) never gave me a problem. I loved the turning radius, the power she had (when empty), the blue/green color, and the great looking trunk. This car was so faithful that even when I left the interior lights on all night I didnt have a problem starting. She was small enough to park in tight spots, and large enough to take on trips. She got around 33 mpg. The radio was awesome and I liked the temperature gage. She didnt even show dirt too badly. I loved my car and would buy another one in a heartbeat.

keep it forever - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By kevinm - December 25 - 7:06 amI bought this LE model brand new. Since then it has been driven by 4 members of the family for a total of over 120,000 miles and runs as good as when we first bought it with no big repairs except the A/C. In fact, it still has the original exhaust system. We are in the very snowy Pocono Mountains in PA. It is only so-so in snow on the road that is over 3" without snowtires but Id still recommend it to anybody. The only better vehicle Ive driven is a Toyota RAV4.

OK car - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By okie - October 22 - 2:56 amThis car is for small people but has perks like the gas mileage. I have a 70 mile commute every workday and only spend 20 dollars on gas every week. It has flaws but they are minimal for the price. Anyone looking for a car with good reliability for its price and doesnt care about cosmetic problems will love it

Not Toyotas Best - 1998 Toyota Corolla
By Jon H - May 5 - 8:36 pmI dont know what everyone is talking about. I have had my car for 3 years. I bought it used in 2002 w/ about 68,000 miles. And the list of problems start 3 days after I bought it. I dont know if I got the runt or what. But this car is crap. Seats are hard, uncomfortable for drives longer then 20 mins. I had to have a new engine put in it just about 100,000 miles. Only good thing I can say, is Im glad I bought the extended warantee. Which just went up @ 104K, and now it needs new seals.... just lovely. I bought this car expecting so much. And I must say it has let me down. I honestly wish I had just kept my 98 Dodge neon. Yes you heard me.................

By bluejaychico - April 24 - 10:00 amIf youre looking for reliable, this is the car for you. In 5 years, all I have ever had to do is change the oil. My Corolla has never given me a single concern. And the style never gets old. Great car in every aspect!
