  • Best Car Ever - 1996 Toyota Corolla

I sold my 96 Toyota a week ago & already miss that car. It was very dependable and I even drove it to AZ and back. In the 11 years I had it I only had two problems. One was electrical wiring & the other was my gas tank was punctured. I prob. hit something but once these repairs were made it was back to its dependable self. I wish I still had this car and when I placed an ad selling it I had numerous calls & sold it within 4 hours for 200 less than asking price. If you need a reliable car this is it! Dont hesitate to buy. I have a big family now & it was no longer practical but I sure wish I couldve kept it.

  • 7 years, 200,000+ kms, <$1000 in repairs - 1996 Toyota Corolla
    By -

I have had this car for 7 years and over 200,000 kms. In all that time i had to replace a clutch, a waterpump, and the front exhaust pipe for a total of under $1000 in unscehduled maintence which in way better than any other car I have had or know of. I had this car since my early 20s and drove it very hard the first few years, never broke a thing. Car still gets close to 40 mpg on the highway. The 5-speed gives the car a lot more umph especially off the line and highway passing. I will drive this car until it dies which at the rate it has been going so far will be years down the road. Best investment i have ever made.

  • The dependable Corolla - 1996 Toyota Corolla

The Corolla will give years of reliable service. Toyota uses high quality, long lasting parts and components. At 150K miles the engine uses little oil, the original CV joints and boots are intact, and generally everything works as it did when new.Not to mention great MPG.

  • Not cool but wouldnt give it up - 1996 Toyota Corolla

I just had a chance to replace my little yota with a 2004 nissan altima and I said no. This is the best car in the world, even if it lacks power and looks. Its reliable, and really efficient. All that a collage student really needs.

  • The best little car available - 1996 Toyota Corolla

I bought my corolla over 2 years ago from my mom, she had it for 8 years herself. She never had one problem with it and neither have I. Just replaced the timing belt and thats it besides normal maintenance!! It feels like a 5 year old car with 50,000 yet it has 180,000 and is now 13. If youre looking for reliability this is the car for you.

  • Want Another - 1996 Toyota Corolla

They should still make Corolla wagons. Id get another. Ten years, 212000 miles, the only problem is oil burning - I just use thicker viscosity. Ive done only minor repairs from wear and tear. Original clutch and exhaust - amazing considering winter driving. The reliability, efficiency, and practicality of this car should be emulated. I average 42 mpg summer, 34 mpg winter, overall 38 mpg. I dont baby this car - I dont slow down for speed bumps, I use it like a pick-up (firewood, cement, loam, etc.), I carry people, luggage, doors, trees from the nursery... I fear this one is irreplaceable. Toyota should return to making the Corolla wagon. Try it as a hybrid, or at least with very low emissions. For now, if I had to replace this, itd be with a Focus.

  • Good over all car - 1996 Toyota Corolla

I bought this car with 176000 miles on it and the previous owner was an old lady and drove it with the axle almost broken so it messed up the transmission so I had it replaced. Other than that, the car runs and handles well and now it has 190,000 miles on it and the engine still does not burn oil and no leaks. Of course I have to do the regular maintenance. Its a really great car for starters and specially now the gas price is going up again.

  • Incredibly Reliable, Cheap to Own - 1996 Toyota Corolla
    By -

Bought this from the second owner 6 years ago. 5 speed stick with A/C. Now have 143,000 miles on it. Has never broken down on us. Other than a suspension job at 141,000 and a new a/c compressor at 143,000, never anything but standard maintenance. Northern car, bad winters but no rust. Last week, got 45 mpg on a 300 mile drive, with the a/c on. Not a fast or fancy car, dies on steep hills, not much pep for passing. But a great car if you want something reliable that is cheap to drive and wont leave you waiting for a tow. Id buy it again in a heartbeat.
