This all-new coupe is based on the Camry platform. Designed jointly by the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Solara is targeted at consumers who want the style of a sports car but the room and comfort of a larger, more practical vehicle.

  This is the best car Ive ever had. Ive gotten so many complements on this car, theres not a big difference in the 00,01,02 or 03 except for the lights in the rear. I love this car.

  Nice but not reliable - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

  Room & comfort front & back great. Great acceleration if air off. Too many mechanical problems. Defective valve spring - took dealer 3 days to ID & fix engine when car was less than a month old. Front struts replaced @22,000 miles. Front brakes and rotors replaced & 22,000 and 35,000 for rust problems ($360). Anti-lock brakes extend stopping distance on rough surfaces and sometimes kick in for no reason.Car will be paid off soon & will be history before the brakes go again.

  I keep cars a long time. My 97 Solara should break my record for longevity. Brought it new and it now has 171200 miles on it. It is also a 5-speed (special ordered) V6, and the clutch is still original and still tight. Mileage is about 33mpg if I can keep my speed below 65mph. Reality has been excellent and I only had a suspension problem, which took Toyota several attempts, but was finally fixed. If you can get one used, it is an excellent choice.

OR TRANSMISSION?.TRANSMISSION OIL DIRTY/BURNT EARLY ON;PROBLEMS 55000;INTERIOR WOOD GRAIN FADES; DEFROSTER HARD FOR ME TO OPERATE; LIGHTS AND DOOR LOCKS COMING ON NOW...ALWAYS SOMEIN..LEMON?

  Just Rolled 200,000 on the Clock - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

  Bought my Solara new in 1999 and have had nothing but satisfaction with the vehicle. Regardless I expect to go WAY past 250,000 miles with this car. Just follow the maintenance schedule and take care of it, and itll be the most reliable vehicle youve ever owned. Would I buy another? In a New York Minute. But this time, I will find a better dealer.

  The SE version of this car with the V6, 5 speed, leather package and moonroof are the way to go. Mine is black over charcoal. Beautiful car with typical Toyota quality build. Only thing I would add is a little more horsepower to keep up with the Acura and Accord in the same class. All in all, could not have made a better purchase for the money.

  Ive owned 15 cars in my life, always changing every 2 years because I was not satisfied. That is until I bought my 1999 Toyota Solara SLE V6. Ive found no need to get rid it it. After 10 years, it is perfect. Never in my life have I see a better built car, inside and out than the Solara. Sadly Toyota does not know a good thing when it see it. They will be sorry for the cancellation of the Solara. I intended to repeat buy Solara for life. It is not likely I will buy any other Toyota. The Solara was the only one with class and style. When I go away for vacation, I consider driving my Solara to be part of the vacation...part of the pleasure. Never have I driven a more superb vehicle.

  EXCELLENT RIDE FOR MONEY! I WOULD CONSIDER THIS CAR A POOR MANS LEXUS..HA HA!!! RESPONSIVE V6, GOOD TO EXCELLENT STEERING. GREAT COMFORT... LASTELY--BEST LOOKING COUPE IN CLASS BY FAR!
