This Year's Model Updates:

Want air conditioning, power windows/locks/mirrors and variable intermittent wipers on the CE? Buy the Value Package. To get remote keyless entry or a power driver seat on the LE, you must buy a Value Package. A power moonroof and an in-dash six-disc CD changer require the Leather Value Package on XLE models. LE V6 models get daytime running lights standard, while JBL audio is optional on all LEs. The anti-theft system with engine immobilizer is restricted to XLE V6 models.

Pros:
  • Toyota reliability, incredibly powerful and refined optional V6, excellent resale value.
Cons:
  • High prices, uncomfortable seats, forgettable styling.

  • It wont die. - 2001 Toyota Camry

Bought my LE V6 in 2005 with 58k miles on it. It has 143k miles now. I secretly wish it would die so I can buy another more exciting car, because this car is utterly boring to drive. But its refusing to do so because it is so danm reliable. It has never broken down and found dead on the side of the road. The only parts that have been replaced were brakes, timing belt and water pump at 100k miles, spark plugs every couple years or so, and the door handle on the driver side that unexpectedly broke off a couple winters ago. The windows on the drivers side is beginning to go bad now. It can go up and down, but its loose. This car would probably run for another 100k miles. The engine is still very quiet and clean, not even an oil leak. I had considered replacing it with a 3-series BMW, they are really fun to drive, but decided against the idea given the reputation of costly and frequencies of repairs of BMW. Cost of maintenance for the Camry has been low. During the 10 years that Ive owned it, besides oil changes and tires, total cost of maintenance was about $1k or so.

I have loved my Toyota Camry! It drives super smooth and the V6 engine is awesome. Besides being a safe car, it feels safe. It handles curves well, stops quickly and Ive never lost control of it. Even in the snow, it has only fish-tailed once!

This is the car if you want a dependable, safe, inexpensive car. It is good for everyone.

  • Does everything with poise - 2001 Toyota Camry

This car has been as reliable as everyone says Toyotas are. Now at 214,000 miles. Maintenance includes: 5k mile oil changes. A tranny flush and timing belt change every 80k or so. The only items Ive had to replace other than maintenance was the interior clock (replaced for free by toyota) and the inner tie rods up front. Very solid and high quality.

  • Think long and hard before you purchase - 2001 Toyota Camry

Check the re-sale value before you purchase...you may think twice! I have the SE model and wish I would have waited longer before purchasing this vehicle. Its been in the shop 3 times (within 1 year) for a knocking sound under the hood. The dealership told me that it was loose strut caps, and now they dont know what the problem is (they say they dont hear anything now...hmmm) and the problem is still not fixed. It does not do well in snow - slides all over the road. Although this car is very roomy, I wouldnt purchase another.

  • Disappointed - 2001 Toyota Camry

I bought the car based on everything I had read and was almost immediately disappointed. Handling on the base model was very sloppy, Steering was non responsive. It floated all over the lane at highway speed. Brakes were poor. I traded it in at 10,000 miles.

  • Can a Mercedes owner really like a Toyota - 2001 Toyota Camry
    By -

Daily commute 100 miles times 23 years. It has take four used 79-83 Mercedes diesels to get me this far. (However saving one seems only prudent.) Bought the 01 used 36600 miles. Although the Camry doesnt give you the feel of the heavy Mercedes, its ride is acceptable. The Camry takes less maintenance so far than the over engineered Mercedes. The 4 cylinder does fine, very smooth.

This has been a GREAT all around car for us. We have had it for about 18 months and have had nothing but good things to say. The Camry is spacious, comfortable, and quiet. We have a 2 year old and one more on the way, and we have no problems with fitting car seats in the back.
