Overview & Reviews
Two new audio systems are available and both include three-in-one ETR/cassette/CD features. Also available are daytime running lights with auto-off. Vintage Red Pearl, Sable Pearl and Woodland Pearl replace Sunfire Red Pearl, Ruby Red and Classic Green Pearl.
- When it comes to people moving, the Camry gets the job done with dependability.
- The suspension is a bit wallowy for our tastes and the new Accord offers more interior space.

The Car That Never Dies - 1999 Toyota Camry
By Ash - December 27 - 10:34 pmThis was my first car and honestly it was great. The car lasted up to 230,000 miles, and the only reason it died was because I had given it to my irresponsible younger brother who had driven it for 30,000 miles without getting a single oil change... even after that with a huge knock under the hood, it would still start up and drive down the road. PROS: 1. The transmission was great. The car had no problem going 100 mph... it actually had a better ride going faster. 2. It ALWAYS started. Most reliable car ever. 3. Awesome sound system for a stock radio. My bass bumped better than a custom speaker. 4. It was okay to slack a little on oil changes. Now for the negatives... 1. Electrical problems. The cigarette lighter stopped working as well as one of the power outlets. It was not a blown fuse either, they just stopped working for no rhyme or reason. 2. CD player would skip when hitting the brakes or taking a right turn. 3. The cassette player would spit a tape out when the car was cold. No problems once it started heating up. 4. Easily weighed down/bottoms out. Fitting five people in the car and driving over a small bump would be the scariest thing ever. 5. Constant minor repairs. Ive had quite a few with this car out of the six years that I drove it... Repairs: 1. Struts. I think I replaced them three or four times. I would drive through a massive pothole and the stuts would be fine... but then one day out of random, theyd be s***. 2. Replaced the timing belt at 180k. It was previously replaced at 90k. 3. EXHAUST. I forget the amount of times I had gotten a random whole in my exhaust pipe. I remember it happening to me very frequently. 4. It had another on&off problem before I had given the car to my brother where I would start it and the RPMS would go very low causing the car to stall out. I have no idea why this happened, but I would give it a few mins and it would be good to go again. It would do this a couple of times every few months or so. All in all, a really reliable car. I still see them everywhere in 2015 and there is a reason. That car had taken me everywhere and I beat it up... but it always drove.

A Camry or a Lexus? - 1999 Toyota Camry
By dc_sports_rule - December 4 - 10:00 amI have been very impressed with the purchase of my Camry LE back in June of 1999. The car is 4 years old today and rides just like the day I picked it up four years ago. The OEM General Tires were replaced by Toyota within the first two months of ownership. The General Tires were defective and replaced with Michelin XW4s. The car is very quiet on the road and the reliability has been flawless.

Great A to B car - 1999 Toyota Camry
By srichey - November 20 - 4:30 pmI owned it for 4 years and did not have one problem with it. Best car I have ever owned. Excellent used car, very reliable and handles quite well on the freeway. The gas mileage isnt bad either if you drive correctly.

Not up to Earlier Standards - 1999 Toyota Camry
By John Baker - October 3 - 3:56 pmWe have had far too many problems and repairs for a low-mileage vehicle. Electric door locks function intermittantly & cannot be fixed. Air bag already requires repairs although never deployed. Many rattles and squeaks. This is our 4th Toyota, and it is clearly not as well-made as the others.

Still running strong despite ME! - 1999 Toyota Camry
By Portly Pete - August 27 - 12:23 pmI have really enjoyed this car. Nice blend of qualities rather than strong in one area. Performs great, looks fine, comfortable. The V6 has enough power to be fun but it cant beat a Ferrari! Well, I did once probably because my friends and I just scared the dude! LOL!

At 220K still reliable - 1999 Toyota Camry
By Bob Robertson - August 19 - 8:30 pmI cant say this car is without problems, however at nearly 220K miles it is still going strong and I hope it lasts me till 300K. I bought it new. Replaced a main brake cylinder & front struts under warranty, changed oil every 5K, timing belt at 90K and 180K, water pump at 180K, brake pads every 40-50K. Second shift solenoid went out around 190K miles ($280), rear seal small leak at 190K miles, an A/C compressor noise at 2500+ RPM around 200K. Alarm gets triggered if the car is left out in the sun for 2-3 hrs. A speedometer shows 5% higher speed than it is (you are doing only 76 mph when it says 80) with factory tires.

Not to die for - 1999 Toyota Camry
By Vern - August 15 - 5:30 pmI loved my beat up old ride . 100k It never let me down . I bought it with dents on all sides, front & back . Mechanically it worked well .tranny & engine are well matched . I lent it to My son the 2nd time he had ever driven it & had a head on collision with it .Didnt understand front wheel drive vs rear wheel technology . Its a paperweight now but no one was hurt Thank God . All the doors still shut & work perfectly . but there engine is shoved all the way into the fire wall . A lesser car would have resulted in several fatalities . God bless air bags & Japanese automobiles

Nothing But Quality - 1999 Toyota Camry
By Jake Benn - August 1 - 9:23 amMy dad bought this car with 10,000 on it back in 2003 and then put 212,000 miles on it. We took care of the basics and it still runs exactly like new maybe better. I got it and put some performance parts on (cold air intake, racing plugs, new struts etc.) This car has never let either of us down and if the odometer did not say it had 218,000 miles on it, no one driving it or riding in it would think any thing else but it was a new car.
