This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • OK, but... - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I purchased the Avalon because I wanted near full-size comfort with reasonable fuel economy. Unfortunately, I am not as satisfied as I thought Id be. The ride is OK, and theres a grinding in the CVT transmission when first accelerating...blogs suggest thats an 05-06 Avalon characteristic. Bad. I have to get used to the CVT transmission too. Its always looking for the sweet spot and that hurts quick acceleration. Once if does find that spot, and after a pronounced lag, it issues relatively powerful performance. Interior is well thought out, but the seats belong in the Corolla. The trunk is tiny.

Original owner. Excellent condition. Avalon XlLE extras and reliability. Gets 28 MPG on highway, 24 in town. Regular maintenance. No accidents. Garaged car. Beautiful black car.

  • Not what I expected - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I got the new Avalon to replace my 1998 Camry. The car has lots of power (268 hp), and a comfortable ride... but it is not very well built. The interior trim looks nice, but it is kind of rattley and cheap. My transmission doesnt shift into overdrive on the highway, which waste premium gas. It is at the dealer now.

  • always in the shop - 2006 Toyota Avalon

It has been in the shop for the transmission, rattles in the roof, had to replace the radio, a loose fastener in the front fender. Too high an idle. Just not the car my old Avalon was.

  • A few thoughts - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I dont understand why the side view mirrors are so large & they dont fold. The car comes with without body side mouldings for protection. Why do they have very large key fobs rather than build into keys like Honda does. I understand that the engine does not have a spin off oil filter like all the other cars I have ever owned and Toyota really dont want you to do your own service on the car. On exterior styling the side view is fine, but the front grill area could be better looking, and the is just o.k. On the plus side, I wanted the feel and the ride of a German car without all the problems, so I purchased the Touring model Toyota Avalon. So far, so good.............

  • Concerned - 2006 Toyota Avalon

3 yrs old w/ 60k and maintained by the dealer. At 55k miles had the oil leak others mention. Originally 31mpg, now 25. The steering sometimes sticks when making a left turn and accelerating from a standing start. Keyless entry on the drivers door is failing 50% of the time. Cooling feature of drivers eat no longer works. Transmission taking longer to shift (will it make 100k?).

I just purchased the Avalon Limited (demo). It has everything (nav, adaptive cruise, custom bluetooth phone integration). Car is definitely worth thousands more. Not only are all components user friendly, the car gets great attention on the road. One complaint is the cheap appearance of the radio and interior plastic.

  • Dashboard and oil line - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I have 52,000 miles on my Avalon and the dash is getting hairline cracks everywhere. I was told it would cost $1,200. to replace .Then this week my rubber oil line hose failed that repair cost was $425. I almost damaged the engine but I was able to take it to a dealer for repairs . It seams the rubber on the Toyota is defective !! NOTE: the hose is 4 inches long and cost $78. On the internet you can buy 5 feet of the same Original Equipment Manufactured hose for $10.00 from part # 13016

  • Pleased With My First Toyota - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

My first Toyota and Im very pleased with this car. Lots of upgrades and gadgets make this a fun car to drive and show off. Was considering Lexus IS, but back seat, even though I dont use a lot, was too small to compromise. Others: Chrysler 300 and Cadi CTS just didnt have all the extras for such a great price. Gas mileage first 2000 miles is 25-27 combined and 33 straight highway. Accelerates nicely/brakes well. Nav system is fun and useful, but the toggle/select button makes it so frustrating. Laser cruise control is the best feature. Keyless entry/start is beneficial as well as fun to demonstrate. Seats are hard and Id do without the vent/heat to soften them up (if given the choice).

  • Never thought I would buy an Avalon, WOW - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

The WOW is for the car itself. Did my research and found this car worth a look see! lol, wow, what a car! Definitely pure luxury, I think it was better than the Lexus. I figured they know what they are talking about. Not a cheap car either, but well worth it. Got the XLS, completely loaded.
