This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • All you need to do is change the emblem! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

If you remove the Toyota emblems and replaced them with Lexus IDs no one would notice! The steering wheel is identical to my friends Lexus LS. The back seat is larger. It as close to a Lexus LS that I had, than any other car I have been in. The gas mileage is great, especially for a car this size. 33 mpg hiway, 23 in town and on regular gas! I did not buy this car for economy but, for comfort and style. A bargain at the price. Compares favorably with cars costing under $50,000

Poooooor quality. Tailpipes off, engine growls and transmission problems from day one. Its been in and out of dealer for two months!!! My wife hates the seats in front. She says they are very uncomfortable. Plus, Toyota wont fix the darn transmission. They and dealer give me the runaround. Never again.

This is the most powerful car I have ever owned. I had a bunch of 1966 v8 mustangs but this car would blow them away. The JBL system is awesome, the ride (xls) is very good and the car looks very good as well. Bought a leftover 2006.

  • Not a happy Camper - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Have owned several Toyotas in the past including a Corolla and a Sienna van. So naturally when it came time to replace our old Acura Legend, the Avalon sprang out as the logical choice. My biggest regret is not doing more research on this vehicle before purchase. From day one it always had a nervous shifting transmission and rather hard seats. It accelerates really well and is rated at good gas mileage. Too bad it has never acheived what the sticker says I will get. Have never seen 22 in the city or 31 on the highway ever! Using a good old fashioned calculator I typically am getting around 20-21 mpg in surburban driving and 26-27 on the highway. Road noise is high and the exterior is bland.

  • Great Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I am in outside sales. I drive about 45000 miles a year and this is a great car. Toyota has been very helpful also. I had the oil on the ground problem, will happen to every Avalon, and Toyota fixed it for free even though I was out of warranty. The gas mileage is great and the resale is great. With 110000 miles on the car right now the resale is still above 15000 (exceptional) would recommend to anyone and will purchase another.

A good, comfortable, safe, well performing vehicle. Lots of room, great sound system. Good creature comforts.

Just picked up our Avalon Limited 2006. It had 44 miles on it and we got a good deal, $500 over invoice, no navsystem, didnt need it, but had the dealer put in XM radio, which we DID NEED! We live in boonies and regular radio reception is terrible. Love the feel and roominess. The faux wood trim in car makes it seem elegant. The car is extremely quiet and the sound system is awesome. Had to get used to not having a key and starting the car by pushing a button. The car is insulated from any rode noise and the ride is exceptionally smooth. We bought the car because of Toyota reliablity, roominess, and handling. Of course the price was right.

  • Front Seats - 2006 Toyota Avalon

The front seats are most uncomfortable. It feels like a metal rail is in the middle of the seat that presses upward toward the tail bone. Outside wind noise is somewhat abated from earlier models but should be much better since the car has been re-engineered. The JVCs 12-speaker sound system is fair. My 4-year old GM cars sound system puts this to shame.

  • Hard Seat Avalon - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Ive had my AVY since Oct. 05...just over 6k on it. It is used to travel between Pittsburgh and Scranton. I believe the car has plenty of power, great styling, good gas economy (29+ on trip)... very happy with most aspects of the car except the front, heated, cooled, power seats. I feel they are too hard. Also, the passenger seat lacks some of the adjustment features of the drivers seat. Nav system seems more complicated and busy than others I have used.

  • Best car on the road - 2006 Toyota Avalon

We enjoy this car so much. It is the best car we have driven. We are not young people (in our 70s). We have driven GM cars for years, then switched to Toyota, what a difference. This is our 5th Toyota Avalon, (new) and we have one 1996 that my husband drives that he bought used. So we have driven 5 new ones and one used on making six, so you know we are happy with Toyota.
