This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • No Body Side Moldings - 2006 Toyota Avalon

This is my second Avalon, gave my old 1998 version to my son. I love the Lexus like quality and look. Great dash, plenty of interior space, lots of nice features, like the auto dimming exterior drivers mirror, extendable arm rest and reclining rear seats. Rear Lip Spoiler is a must. Was disappointed it does not come with body side moldings. Went on-line and found at Bob Bridge Toyota in Renton, WA. They are genuine toyota parts..... looks great and protects from door dings. Local dealer installed for $40. in my opinion they should have been there to start. All is all a great car to drive.

Have just over 2000 miles since purchased, over half of it on trip to Florida. Gas mileage just about as advertised on the highway. Ride is quiet and smooth. Acceleration right on the money. Small complaint with windshield wipers leaving smudges on the windshield and hard to remove. Wiper action somewhat noisy. Have an annoying "thump" on acceleration and is more prominent with full tank of gas. No explanation from dealer, except do not think it is a mechanical or safety problem. So far, on the whole, pleased with performance and comfort. Well see about reliability as time goes by.

  • A Fantastic Car That Needs Fine Tuning - 2006 Toyota Avalon

This is one fantastic car. I love how quick it is on the road and it drives like a luxury car. People are always telling me how beautiful this car is. I only have a few problems. The paint on the front of the car chips easily. I have lots of chips from stones. Maybe an extra coat of paint would help. The mirrors should turn in so I can get the car through the car wash. There are two blind spots if you look to the back of the car. Other than that, I love this car. Oh by the way. I still have a 1995 XLS with 160,000 miles and the car purrs like a kitten. Only thing Ive had to do is put a timing belt in the car. These Toyotas run forever.

Not much wrong with this car. Great mileage, even at higher speeds. Seat cushions are not padded enough. Would buy another except MPG has dropped by 3 for 2008 models with same engine.

  • Fun to drive to work - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I have 7000 miles on my new Avalon. I drive 100 miles a day. It has been a joy to drive even in bad weather. A good value for the money!

  • Mixed Feelings - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I looked for some time at sedans for less than $35K. I immediately fell in love with the Avalon and bought the Touring for a bit more of a sporty/youthful feel (I am 35). Surprisingly, I have had numerous problems with the vehicle. Broken trim, complete replacement of moonroof (2x), Tech bulletin replacement of catalytic converter, replacement of faulty A-pillar (front passenger) trim. I went into this aware of Toyotas build quality so I want to believe I bought a bad instance of a great car. A bit disappointed and am considering trading it in on an alternative vehicle.

  • Totally pleased with my Avalon - 2006 Toyota Avalon

This is a great car! It is solidly built and stylish in design. It provides a smooth, peppy drive and agile steering. It is comfortable for both the driver and the passengers. The interior is plush and the back seat is so roomy. The reclining rear seats are a special touch of comfort. The JBL sound system is excellent and I thoroughly enjoy the "surround sound" feature. I am totally pleased with my new Avalon.

I feel this car should be in the luxury class of cars. We road-tested the loaded Honda Accord, Nissan Maxima, Lincoln Zephyr, Mazda 6, VW Passat V-6, BMW 3 Series (& X3) as well as a few others; this Avalon has a better all- around feel. A little road noise on "rough road" surfaces but what car isnt? (could be the brand of tire)

  • Love the Avalon! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I love everything about this car. It looks good inside and out. Lots of storage, very comfortable and roomy, quiet at ANY speed, easy to handle. I have been told it is a Lexus with the Toyota name on it. Same engine and body as a lower class Lexus. I would highly recommend it to anyone, any age!!

It is hard to identify my favorite feature on this car. Love the smart key/keyless entry/remote start, the heated seats, the spacious back seating that amazes passengers. The in-town gas mileage is a little low (about 18) compared to 30 freeway. Only problem I have had is a strip that comes loose from the roof top on the passenger side of the car when I go through a car wash. The only service work done has been oil changes. The car runs great. My previous car was a much-enjoyed 1999 Dodge Intrepid. In choosing this car, it was a decision between a similar cost/similar featured Mercedes. No regrets on choosing the Avalon over the Mercedes.
