For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • Wonderful Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Believe it or not, traded a Prius for the Avalon due to long drives and increased comfort. It drives like a dream compared to the Prius. Also had a G35, and like this one much better. Think the interior could be quieter, but havent found a car yet that was as quiet as I thought it should be. Compared to every other car in the price range and several more expensive and this is the only one that had all the features that I was seeking. Also got the Special Edition Package and looks much more sporty.

  • Great car, terrible navigation system - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Have had no problems with vehicle maintenance, the reliability has been very good. Average fuel mileage (regular gas) 27 mpg, the ride is comfortable with in-seat heat/cooling. Overall the vehicle has been great. The navigation system is a loser, very difficult to program and gives erroneous directions in congested areas. Save the $1900 and purchase a reliable portable GPS at a fraction of the price.

  • Excellent Value but Blah - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Ive owned my Avalon for 9 mos now and really like it. The fuel economy and comfort are great. The car is a breeze to drive, quiet, and smooth (except when the transmission down shifts - abrupt). It lacks youthful style and a few amenities, like an iPod connection, that I would like to have. The keyless entry system is wonderful; however, the remote start is disappointing. The car also needs body side molding for protection. The interior materials are also inferior for a car cost $32k+. I would not buy another Avalon, mostly because they are not fun to drive. Im in my early 50s and not ready for an old folks car just yet.

From the very beginning I have enjoyed driving this car. The ride is as good as the Cadillac I traded in on this Avalon. I havent taken it on an extended road trip but look forward to doing so this summer.

  • I swear I thought it was a lexus!!!!! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

If you want to have a luxury mid size sedan but does not want to spend tons of money then the Avalon is the best one for you. I was debating on either this car or the lexus ES. I cant seem to justify spending thousand$ more just to have the Lexus badge on my car. The Avalon has more features , better and stonger engine, better looks. In fact the Avalons ride is a lot better (go test drive it and you will know what Im talking about). The interior on this car is huge. I mean its almost as big as the Lexus LS. Toyota has done a really great job on this car. So if you not sure still, please take my advice, test drive it!!!

This car is the best I have ever owned. It is comfortable, very peppy, gets decent gas milage and is thoughtfully designed inside and out. I weas a kid of 9 to 13 in World War 2, with high school heroes coming home after horrible treatment by the Japanese, so it took me 61 years before I would consider a Japanese car. But now I am very glad I bought a Toyota Avalon.

  • More in common with a Lexus than Toyota - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

Its a Lexus, minus the "L" on the front -- which drops the price by at least $10K. Its a joy to drive, the gas mileage is fantastic for a car of this size, and this car can GO. I have to be careful when driving because its very easy to push it past 90 on the highway without even thinking about it -- the ride is that smooth. This is a car that will never annoy you.

  • Not ready for medicare yet - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Thought the new Avalon would have better handling, but it drives like my fathers old Buick. The concept is great... lots of features, good price/ value, should have good reliability, but "oh what a feeling" is missing big time. Mileage is 19 to 20 in town on the road it is 27+/-. The transmission seems to slip. Dealer says it is a new 6 speed auto and is supposed to slip(?). To our surprise it is not very comfortable on long trips. Neither of us have back problems but after 3 hours our backs start to hurt. So this car will be going on Autotrader/ Cars.com soon. It will be a while before we go back to Toyota.

  • Very nice car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Ive had my Avalon for a month now and I am very pleased. One minor trim problem (faux wood piece in door not seated properly), which Im surprised was not caught at the factory. Very roomy, which was a priority in my purchase decision. Transmission takes a little getting used to and can be hesitant on occasion but not something that would change my original decision. Power is more than adequate and a nice, smooth ride. Im hoping my Toyota wears as well as most others Ive heard about. If you want a roomy, full size car, this is the one!

  • Buick Convert - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Having been a buick fan (last one the Ultra) I am finding this car to be far superior. Allthough the car seems smaller and more sporty to drive the overall size, comfort and interior room are equal to the Buick and provide plenty of room for a large person. Interior storage compartments are vast and handy to access compared to the Buick (dont have to jamb the door shut on the glove compartment). The quiet motor provides all the get up and go that I require with extra to spare. The bumps are noticeable on inferior roads, but on a quality highway it rides and handles like a dream. Am constantly finding little extras like the hold down clamps on the floor mats.
