This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • 2nd time around - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I went back to a Toyota Avalon after owning a Chrysler 300 for just over a year. The Avolon gets much better gas milage, a smoother ride, just as much if not more leg room in the front and back. The style is still great as well!

  • Excellent Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

After researching Acura TL, Lexus ES330, Infinity G35, I finally bought fully loaded 2006 Avalon Limited. For the price I paid, this is the best in its class - near luxury large sedan. Cabin is very carefully designed and the ride is very smooth. At some point I wanted to wait for 2007 Camry XLE V6 and 2007 Lexus ES350. I can get a fully leaded Camry XLE v6 for 30K but the camry interior quality is not so good. So I paid 5K more and got Avalon with some extra features (such as rain sensing washers, power sun shade, laser cruise control, large wheels etc)

  • A great car! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I have found this to be the most comfortable, quiet, powerful car that I have owned and one that has the most beautiful cabin that I have seen. Truly this car is a pleasure to look at, enter and - most important - drive. I love it!

  • 100% Pure Class - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Try it, - youll like it. Just traded in my 2004 Solara for the big Toyota. My family and friend love the roominess in the rear. I love the power and the distinguished appearance. I have the black with the ivory interior. Bee-yoo-tee-ful!!

  • Extremely Impressed! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

What a vehicle! Why would you purchase a Lexus when you can have this at thousands less? This is the most well- rounded car for the $ you are going to find. Smooth, quiet, fast and comfortable, with Toyota quality to boot. Im extremely picky when it comes to cars and I havent found much of anything that is an issue with this one. Test drive one and youll see what I mean.

  • Great MPG and Comfort - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

One of the nicest vehicles I have ever owned. Recent trip to NC gave me between 33-34 mpg. Amazing and thats going 70-75 mph most of the trip. The only complaint I have is that you cannot shut the wipers "off". They are completely automatic and come on whenever a few sprinkles hit the windshield. I would recommend this car for overall comfort and fun to drive and of course the great mpg.

  • Transmssion - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

At slow speeds, when gear lever in D, transmssion sometimes has difficulty in deciding appropriate gear to shift into. Toyota dealer says no problem, just a new configuration (drive by wire)that is developing a feel for drivers style. I believe there is a software glitch here. Also, am averaging 15mph city and 25 highway, well below published standards, while driving modestly. Finally, this car is hot, there is almost too much power for a front wheel drive configuration to handle. My 2000 XLS was a more satisfactory purchase.

  • Would I Buy Again? - 2006 Toyota Avalon

The Avalon is Toyotas version of a Buick. It is much improved over the prior models. The acceleration and economy are a nice blend. The car has great acceleration, for what it is, and the highway mileage is truly over 30mpg. The car has quite a bit of torque steer and can get squirrelly if youre not paying attention under hard acceleration. My opinion is it should have been a rear wheel drive. The car drives well. Its not to tight so it rides well but its not like driving a sponge when cornering (like a Lincoln, Buick, etc.) Road noise is excessive but some of that may be the CHEAP quality tires the factory put on the car. The AC and heat are the best Ive owned.

  • Not perfect, can be annoying - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

Had it for a year now. No major problems, lots of annoyances. The navigation system is very difficult to operate, with too many unecessary steps. Cannot change the route while car is moving. Radio FM displays no text while driving (for safety reasons, it says), but the satellite radio does show the first 10 letters of the song title and the singers name. Squeaks and rattles from the dashboard and the sunroof. Drives well, good acceleration, though not as quiet as expected. Comfortable inside, lots of space. Satellite radio antennas reception not as good as other competitors. Dashboard can create glare on the windshield under certain conditions. Overall happy with the purchase.

  • Traded up from 05 Prius - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I know it seems strange to trade off the Prius for a Avalon Limited, after all there is no comparison in gas mileage, but it all comes down to personal needs. I am retired and the days of commuting to work are over. My wife and I do travel and drive long distances, consequently I prefer the power (especially for steep highway grades), comfort, stability and security the Avalon gives me. I definitely can do without the "Laser Cruise Control" & "Remote Engine start", saving about $1100. By the way the Prius is still a excellent car,for local and flat land driving. I have set my goal for a Prius 08 which I hope will have some improved features, but will still keep the Avalon.
