This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • Good Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Very small quality problems corrected by the dealer, otherwise well built. Cabin wind noise louder than expected at highway speeds. Ride smooth with plenty of power. A classic American highway cruiser.

  • Silkly smooth, quick, supremely comfy - 2006 Toyota Avalon

My Avalon is so quiet and smooth that it is hard to tell that the engine is running when first started. It is as comfortable as sitting in a recliner in my living room. Acceleration is very quick and shifting gears are seamless. Instrumentation is well thought out and extremely simple... the cabin is elegant. The dash is uncluttered with all extraneous gizmos hidden behind easily accessed "hatches". The mileage is wonderful. I have watched mine inch past the 31 mpg highway estimate to 32 and 33 mpg. Emotional attachments to my old 55 Chevy aside, this is the best car I have ever owned.

  • Timing cover oil leak - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

Our 2006 Toyota Avalon with 92k miles was diagnosed with a timing cover oil leak at my local Toyota dealership. Cost to repair was $1950. After discussing this the service manager and searching online, I find that this problem is very common in the 3rd generation Avalons. We’re the original owner. The car has been garage kept, not driven is any harsh conditions, and never in an accident. The car has had service at our local dealership every 5K miles. This is our first Toyota and we bought a Toyota car because of its long history of dependability. We never expected such a costly repair cost like this, especially because of a defective sealant on the timing cover. Toyota has issued service bulletins on this issues. So they recognize that it is a problem, I contacted Toyota customer service to complain and got no satisfaction. This problem should have been pointed out to me while the drive train was still under warranty.

  • A great Road Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Ordered an XLE V6 Camry that was damaged in transit. Didnt want to wait 12 weeks for another Camry, so bought the Avalon. This is a great road car, very comfortable, great mileage-30/31 MPG on the road. All controls & displays are conveniently placed & easy to use. Ive driven 5700 miles in 5 weeks & the more I drive it the more I appreciate the quiet comfort, interior convenience, good handling & economical operation it offers. I heartily recommend this car, especially for those who spend a lot of time on the road.

  • First Non GM Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Were at the car show and my wife wants me to look at the new Toyota Avalon. Im thinking Acura TL, but to keep her happy I go look, After about 2 minutes I ask her when can we get one. The car only has 759 miles on it but the build quality is definitely better than all the other cars weve owned. The seats are very comfortable and supportive, nav system is easy to use. It rides a little choppy over most bumps around town, but I think thats due to the 215/55-17s. On the interstate the car is great, steering is very responsive, and the car for a fullsize V6 is QUICK while giving us 30mpg on our last roadtrip. Very happy at this time, lets see if we feel the same in 10,000 miles.

  • Awesome - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I have had a 2000 and a 2002 Avalon. This is by far the best yet and the most beautiful. The interior is gorgeous as well as the new exterior design. I have a white limited with light gray interior.

  • Love the Limited - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Traded in my 2002 Avalon XL for the 2006 Limited and no regrets yet. Rides like a dream and interior and exterior appearance much improved from 2002 model. Quiet ride, great accelleration, good fuel mileage for the size of the car. JBL sound system is top notch. Could do without the Laser cruise control as it will slow you down so slowly that you are not aware of it when approaching another vehicle.

  • Almost a Perfect Car! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I drive a lot for a living and the need for a large comfortable car with good gas mileage was key. The Toyota Avalon was the solution. It is a great car! Ton of room, great ride, quiet (for the most part), great gas mileage, stylish but... The front seat is not the most comfortable (I bought an additional lumbar support), the transmission has a very defined sticking point or "jerk" as one writter put it, between 1st and 2nd gear, the stereo needs to have a little more zest (I wanna rock!). But all in all a great car!

  • What a Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

With 10,000 miles behind me, Im still in awe driving what I consider to be the best car I have ever owned. Even though its heavier then the 04 it gets better gas mileage. I havent had one problem with this car. When I get into some of my friends cars, a Mercedes or Acura RL (no room in back seat) I cant understand why they cost more. This is the best bargain out there, and trust me, its a luxury car minus the name plate. Maybe we should keep this to ourselves so Toyota doesnt jack the price up. What a smooth riding car.
