This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • Not perfect, can be annoying - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

Had it for a year now. No major problems, lots of annoyances. The navigation system is very difficult to operate, with too many unecessary steps. Cannot change the route while car is moving. Radio FM displays no text while driving (for safety reasons, it says), but the satellite radio does show the first 10 letters of the song title and the singers name. Squeaks and rattles from the dashboard and the sunroof. Drives well, good acceleration, though not as quiet as expected. Comfortable inside, lots of space. Satellite radio antennas reception not as good as other competitors. Dashboard can create glare on the windshield under certain conditions. Overall happy with the purchase.

  • Traded up from 05 Prius - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I know it seems strange to trade off the Prius for a Avalon Limited, after all there is no comparison in gas mileage, but it all comes down to personal needs. I am retired and the days of commuting to work are over. My wife and I do travel and drive long distances, consequently I prefer the power (especially for steep highway grades), comfort, stability and security the Avalon gives me. I definitely can do without the "Laser Cruise Control" & "Remote Engine start", saving about $1100. By the way the Prius is still a excellent car,for local and flat land driving. I have set my goal for a Prius 08 which I hope will have some improved features, but will still keep the Avalon.

  • Best Buy - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I started my search for a new vehicle by looking at the Infiniti M35. I test drove that car along with the Audi A6, the Acura RL and TL and even a couple of Cadillacs and they were all very nice cars. But the Avalon was not even on my radar screen until I parked next to one at church one day. After looking it up on the internet, I found out the reason it wasnt included in my searches was that it didnt cost enough! After driving it and seeing how much more room it had than any of the others I had looked at I bought it immediately and have been tremendously happy with it and the $10,000 I saved ever since.

  • 2006 Avalon XLS - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I read all the mags and test drove just about everything in the 30-50k price range. This 06 Avalon XLS has everything and more that any other luxury car has and does it better, more powerful, on regular gas with great economy. A no brainer with GPS, JBL upgraded stereo and so many other goodies, why would anything else do.

  • SSSMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOTH Ride - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I think the review title says it all. It is without a doubt the smoothest riding vehicle I have ever driven. My daily commute is 70 miles round trip, mostly highway, and this car sails. The Avy is also VERY quite, which I enjoy as I can really decompress on my commute home.

  • Lexus Rival - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Beautiful and rides well. Finish and styling superb for the price. Smart key works well but no ring or hole on the unit so that a valet can hang it up when valet key removed. car cannot be started with valet key. Front seats not comfortable enough, but adequate. transmission "slips" when shifting in certain conditions. Love the small turning radius helpful with a large car. Trunk space has been reduced by the protective lining covering the lid supports. better to remove that and allow longer items to store horizontally such as golf clubs. flat rear floor a gem. Nav. system not too convenient to operate. needs big overhaul, but works very well when finally programmed. Hate the "I agree" thing

  • A Great Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

This car is finally not for old people, which is good. The new exterior is great. The interior is awesome. The performance is very good. For a car with a 3.5 V6, this has the fuel economy of a 4-cylinder. Like most Japanese cars, this is very reliable. It isnt as fancy as the lexus, but about half the price. There is an unbelievable amount of rear legroom: 40", and up front is 41"! There has not been any issues with it yet, and there probably wont be any. It is much better than our previous car, which was a Lexus RX330. There is not one thing anybody dislikes about this car.

  • Its A Great Car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

This is the second Avalon Ive had and I love the car. It makes me feel like Im a rich man when driving it. The drive is smooth, and the comfort driving this car is first-rate. The inside styling is sleek and the seats are very comfortable, including the reclining back seats. Although this is not a "luxury" car I cant imagine what could be more luxurios than this. I just love looking at it and driving it.

  • Great ride, excellent performance - 2006 Toyota Avalon

As everyone stated, it is a great car. It is has a very nice ride, especially for family vacation. Great performance in terms of acceleration, passing, corner handling, and smoothness. Luxury interior design makes it no difference from Lexus LS. You get more luxury for your money.
