This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • My First Toyota - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I bought this car after the birth of my son. I wanted a good car that would last 10 yrs. and hold its value. I’m usually a sport car/sedan kind of guy so this was a big leap for me. I have been pleasantly pleased with the cars overall character. I love the interior space and omission of unnecessary features. I added an aftermarket wood grain kit that covers the entire dash in the factory wood trip. The car now looks a lot more luxurious. My main concern is the appearance of squeaks and rattles. I would not expect this on a Toyota, especially one in this price range.

This is the third Avalon we have owned. This is by far the best. The ride and handling of this vehicle has improved greatly. The interior has been updated and comfort is A-one.

  • Love my Avalon with iPod adapter - 2006 Toyota Avalon

This is my second Avalon. I went from Avalon to E320. The E320 was major disappointment, so I went back to Avalon. I have had this car for over two years. I have not had any problems with. It ride fine. The only problem is the cheap bridgestones tires that come with it. I just changed all four tires to MXV4 and it rides fine. I the dealer install the iPod adapter and it works fine. Great car.

A few squeaks and rattles, and at low speeds/traffic, the 5 speed automatic transmission is quirky and can have a problem figuring out which gear to shift into, but this car is a luxury rocket, with great Lexus-type features.

  • Luxury doesnt have to mean clunky - 2006 Toyota Avalon

My first luxury car. Drives and handles like a much smaller car. Test drove a lot of different cars in the same category and the Avalon was the winner hands down. Doesnt feel like you are driving a boat and it has power to spare, found myself doing 90 miles per hour without even noticing I was going that fast - it was so quiet and smooth. Have a car pool and they are loving the room in the back seat, plus the seats recline in the back. Am getting 24 to 26 miles per gallon which is a nice plus given the current price of gas. The sound system and CD player are great and having a tape deck for those of us who still own tapes was a nice extra.

  • very pleasant car - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Being 64 and having had a couple of knees replaced, I needed to move into a larger car than my 02 Passat. The Avalon is very pleasant - everything works well, I average around 27 MPG in mostly hwy driving on midgrade. The cars unbelievably quiet - you just cannot hear the motor! Rear seats have reclining back and tons of leg room (I wish some of it was in front - I have really long legs!) Acceleration, handling adequate, but not exceptional. What is exceptional are the brakes - no fade, great pedal feel. Optional equipment - nav, JBL radio, very good; XM is worth it. center console design is very clean, and controls are pretty intuitive

  • Dream Car Review - 2006 Toyota Avalon

This is the first automobile that I have ever owned that exceeded all of my expectations. It is a real pleasure to drive. The ride is smooth, no wind noise, the power is awesome, road noise is very low, and the interior is great looking. Gas mileage is great for a car with 280 horsepower. Interior room is more than adequate, and the seats are very comfortable.

  • Everything you need... - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

This car has everything you need, and not much you dont. It is smooth, quiet, responsive, and has the little extras that make it a pleasure to drive. As with any car, you can find faults, but Toyota hit its mark integrating the elements of an expensive lexus in a reasonably priced package. Drivers will need to take a little time to learn the navigation system and make the adjustments for seats, lights, etc., but after that, its a quiet comfortable ride in a well- handling car with power when you need it.

  • I Love to Drive...THIS CAR! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

The most fun I have had in a long time. Finally sold my "oil tanker" SUV for something more fun and maneuver. The 3 point turns are back in my repetoire of driving. Yes, I at times I miss the cargo space. But again "at times".

  • BEST VALUE FOR THE MONEY - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

Four prior Camrys preceeded this Avalon. Toyotas reputation for reliability is well founded. The car is smooth, extremely comfortable, reasonably quick and a pleasure to drive. Ive owned two Lexus GS 300s and this car compares very favorably. I looked at the Lexus ES but its smaller, has less power and room and lacks many of the features the Avalon Limited has available.
