This Year's Model Updates:

The Sentra has been completely overhauled for the 2000 model year. A better ride, more powerful engines and a new enviro-friendly version top the bill, and we likes what we sees.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, SULEV status for CA model, 145-horsepower SE sport version
Cons:
  • Generic styling

  • ABS Brakes - PLEASE - 2000 Nissan Sentra

Yes, I have that chirping noise in the morning before the car is warmed. It started at $11k miles. I thought it was the brand of gas I was using. NOT! Okay, the brakes. The car skids even at 15 to 25 miles. I drive two to three cars back on the highway and streets rain or shine. Its a great car - but it needs a better braking system.

I have had the car for 2 years now, It worked well for almost 1 year. I ended up getting in a fender bender, the dealer fixed it, it never ran the same since. The Brakes have sucked since the beginning, the acceleration is poor, love the dashboard console, radio is poor, overall I liked it for the first year, but began to worry about breaking down just from the way it sounded and the way it ran, made alot of noises. I drive alot and have put 67,000 in the last 2 years on it, all highway miles, I think the car is solid, but not meant for hardcore long distance driving on a consistent basis.

A very good car.50,000 miles and no problems.A little slow off the line with automatic trans but over 60mph it flies.36 mpg highway,no complaints there.cant think of another car in this class I would rather have.I am a mechanic and have seen a lot more problems with Honda and Toyota.I am pleased.

  • Long Term Reliability Issues - 2000 Nissan Sentra

I purchased my SE in 2000, with great excitement when it was first released. I took care of it very well. However, after 8 years and 108000 miles later I am highly disappointed in Nissan. I had to change my alternator at 70K, A/C malfunctions at 75K, and most importantly check engine light is on since 85K and can not be figured out why. Fixes are always temporary and its a chronic problem with this model year. Car has lost its appeal as well is its agility and power due to these problems. I would not buy another Nissan again.

  • after 4 years - 2000 Nissan Sentra

Overall, a fine car for my needs (highway driving, short distances). Have had four recalls. Also have noticed the sqeaky fan belt in the mornings. Dealer replaced it once and another place tightened it (already tight) but it still squeals. Wind noise above 65 mph. Brakes are fine for me. Comfortable seats.

  • Just a great car that keeps going - 2000 Nissan Sentra

Bought this car new in April 2000. Here I am 13 years & 190K miles later to tell all about it. Repairs have been few & far between. Lets see - 3 starters (weak spot on these cars), a MAF, a thermostat, a clutch (150K miles on original), both drive axles, an alternator and a water pump. Not bad considering the mileage. Engine still pulls strong and burns/leaks no oil. Manual trans shifts quietly & smoothly. All the power accessories (windows, locks, sunroof, etc.) still work - as does the AC. Overall, the car is aging quite nicely - I plan on keeping it for a few more years. Why replace something that works so well?

  • Bang for the Buck - 2000 Nissan Sentra

I have well over 75,000 miles on my SE and it continues to run like new. My car has all of the standard bolts ons (More than 25Hp more than stock) and is used as an autocross and track car often gaining better times than other cars twice as expensive. Even with the hard use, it just keeps on going without a problem yet. Great car for the money with a surprising amount of performance.

  • Best bang for the buck - 2000 Nissan Sentra

Compared to the Corolla, Civic, and Focus the Sentra is the best car value around. The 3 recalls surprised me considering Nissan usually builts good cars, but then maybe not as reliable as a Honda. I also had chirping sounds from the belt. Its fixed now unless the weather is damp and the belt gets wet. This car scares me when driving in snow. Not sure if its the tires or the weight distribution but the traction sucks.

The clutch was defective and I keep having to replace different sensors questionably due to engine heat
