This Year's Model Updates:

The Sentra has been completely overhauled for the 2000 model year. A better ride, more powerful engines and a new enviro-friendly version top the bill, and we likes what we sees.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, SULEV status for CA model, 145-horsepower SE sport version
Cons:
  • Generic styling

  • Problems down the road.... - 2000 Nissan Sentra

I bought the car used with 50k and had to replace 3 sensors right away totaling near $1,000. The main sensor needed to be replaced 3 times in a year (covered on warranty). Things were great for the next year nothing more than routie oil changes. at 100,000k things started to go wrong. Tranny blew at 101k. I dont drive rough and only locally drive pretty much. I was shocked. Speakers blew around 70k. I had bent my front rims after too many pot holes, they were impossible to find at a reasonable price considering the size was changed half way through the year (recall). Over all not bad, but really angry about the transmission.

I have own this car since 2004. I bought from a dealership at 44,000 miles. I only had to do Oil Changes until 80,300 miles when the catalytic converter went bad. but, lucky enough was cover under warranty. (but, the dealership made me pay for half $400). Aside from regular up keep i havent had to do much till recently. Now, I am at 127,000 and the radiator was cracked after that was fixed I started having issues with the Idling of the vehicle. which I am trying to get resolved now. Nissan is aware of this issue. when the vehicle is on Park it will go to 2-3,000 RPM. Oh yeah. I also had issues with the pedal sticking. but, I got it resolved. (read below how)

Two years and 20K Mi and it has been great! My wife has a civic VP and she is always taking MY CAR! I have the SE Model and it has tons of gitup-N-Go. This is a great value for someone looking to get into their first car or just tring to find something to get around town with. Only 1 time for a recall, it was done in ten minutes. The biggest downside of this car is that the back seat is only big enough for my two Jack Russell Terriers, My 6 foot tall friend hates it because he is always kneeing me in the back of the chair. Other than that I love it, it was affordable, and its "peppy." I would reccomed this to anyone, and have!!

  • Overall a very good car - 2000 Nissan Sentra

rode 81000 miles, a very sound car in good weather. corners well for class. Im a big guy, so i have pissues with room. the excelleration is very good. ive reached 115 MPH performed well. Now the bad. The brakes, while very good, in need of ABS. Stop short, you will skid. the chirping sound when I pull off in the morning, until car warmsup. I have had problems with the dealer and the company. my oil dipstick head broke, and now the stick is in the oil pan of the car. the cost of getting it out is 500. got a bad deal from the dealer, 1st new car, I will know better next time. i will stick with nissan, if i could find a dealership i feel comfortable with

  • Used to be better - 2000 Nissan Sentra

I had a 1993 that made it to 178,000 miles but I doubt this one will make it that far. While it looks bigger and has a little more room, the trunk is still too small, and with a pretty much stripped down version, I miss things like intermittant wipers, light in the trunk, better fabric on the seats, cruise control... they make a diff. The plastic on the front headlights on both discolor after two years and visors are crap. Windshield has a lot of scratches. Needs better acceleration/pickup. My big complaint is the service--go for an oil change, they try to sell $$$$ maintenance. I bought an inexpensive car because cash is in an issue, I dont have $$$$ to spend in maintenance.

I bought this car model when it was first released back in late 1999 as 2000. Typically I dont buy first model years but in this case I did because it was so much superior than the Civic or Toyota. I had problems with its electrical system and A/C in the first couple of years but after sorting that out, things have been great and I am very pleased. The last year or so a check engine light has come on, it is harmless for the part and has been on for about 40,000 miles so go figure. I am very impressed by the car now in its 10th year of ownership and I am tempted to repeat another Sentra purchase.

If you are looking for a 4dr with better than average performance, decent fuel economy, and "blend in the background" styling. This is an excellent car for the money. I put over 20k miles on mine and love it. I was looking at an A4 or Jetta but at the time they were only putting out 150hp for 1000s more. I love my Sentra SE. I cant speak for the other model levels. Enjoy!!!

Bought this car new Aug 2000. Had 2 miles on speedometer. It has been really a great car. Yes Ive had some issues as with all cars but all in all It has treated me fairly good. The belts need to be changed around every sixty thousand miles and it still wants to squeal especially when cold. AC never that good. Oil dip stick broke off twice. They need to get rid of the plastic head. I have two hundred and thirty thousand on her and shes still running nice. Fuel pump replaced once. recall done on sensor...free I now need struts but wont put any more money in her as shes old. Shes been a good car and Ill drive her till she stops!

  • Excellent Car for its price - 2000 Nissan Sentra

The car is actually fun to drive. Transmission is very responsive – no annoying downshifts. The engine is a bit noisy. Steering is CRISP; virtually no body roll; tight turning radius; very good road feedback. The car handles well at highway speeds. Two words on brakes – be gentle, or you’ll warp your front rotors in no time. Already had two recalls: faulty crank shaft sensor and defective rims – the dealer took care of both problems and have done an excellent job. One major complaint: the metal under the hood (supporting brackets, heat shields, wire harness brackets, etc) had started to corrode. Mileage is very good – I get consistent 33-34 miles/gallon.

  • ABS Brakes - PLEASE - 2000 Nissan Sentra
    By -

Yes, I have that chirping noise in the morning before the car is warmed. It started at $11k miles. I thought it was the brand of gas I was using. NOT! Okay, the brakes. The car skids even at 15 to 25 miles. I drive two to three cars back on the highway and streets rain or shine. Its a great car - but it needs a better braking system.
