This Year's Model Updates:

Beloved by compact car enthusiasts, the Nissan Sentra SE-R returns after a seven-year hiatus. The Sentra SE is no longer available, though Nissan has created additional options packages for the GXE to make it similar to the SE.

Pros:
  • SULEV emissions status for CA model, 165-horsepower SE-R sport version, pleasing cabin design, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Generic styling, GXE and SE-R models command premium price.

  • Best Bang For The Buck..And Then Some! - 2002 Nissan Sentra

I just bought this car about a week ago, and all I have to say is "Where have you been all my life". I have owned many sports cars from 300zxs to Mustangs. This by far is the most fun to drive car I have ever driven! I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for heart stopping fun from idle to redline....and beyond.

Ive put 18000 miles per year on my 2002 and have had NO problems. Replaced the breaks and put new tires on it...thats it besides oil changes. Great, reliable vehicle with plenty of zip.

  • Automatics should never stall - 2002 Nissan Sentra
    By -

My parents got me this care when i learned how to drive, it was a rentl before and had 30,000 miles on it. Within 6 months the car started to die on me when i would be sitting at a light. I have taken it to the dealership more than 6 times in the past 6 months and they never seem to fix it. The car will be ok for a while and then start stalling again and its an automatic! Its a total Lemon and i absolutly hate it!

I have really enjoyed my Nissan Sentra. I think it is also a relatively good deal in comparison with most competitors such as the Toyota Corolla or the Mazda Protege. Handling is very nice and engine performance is very much to my satisfaction. That engine purrs like a kitten when it idles and growls like a leopard when performance is needed. Even in higher gears this car easily pulls you up on most gradients.

I have found this vehicle to be comfortable, well built and fun to drive. So much better than my last 2000 Corolla.

  • Not Reliable - 2002 Nissan Sentra

Only 85k miles. Sentra has mechanical problems. Recent dealer service quote: “will need to replace head gasket, valve cover seal, front crank seal, exhaust manifold gasket, and the intake gasket and all spark plugs. Drive belts are heavily cracked. Timing chain stretched needs tensioner and guides.” Past issues: Oil dip stick broke resulting in removal of oil pan with NTB and dealer service pointing fingers. Brake calipers malfunctioning causing abnormal pad wear and short rotor life on left front. After +$2,000 in repairs, the Sentra just is not worth it. Have owned a Geo Storm, Honda Accord, Chevy Blazer, Ford Mustang, and Jeep Cherokee. All lasted +130k miles.

  • Fun as heck, could use improvements... - 2002 Nissan Sentra

If you buy a Nissan, buy it expecting never to see the dealer again, as they are about worthless. The car is incredibly fun to drive, is responsive to simple performance add ons like a header/exhaust system, and is relatively cheap to run. Get 24-5 mpg avg. For 16g you cant get a car thats funner to drive. At this price point there is no better car. For a bit more the imprezzas a good buy, but not as fun. Id recommend the spec v only if you love shifting and/or live in a snowy climate, as the differential could come in handy there.

I bought my 2002 Sentra GXE 6 years ago. It has been great to me so far. I have had nothing go wrong with it and has been extremely reliable. The car saved my life when I was in an accident. I came out alive and in one piece-which meant that the Sentra did its job. It is far from a luxury vehicle, but it is very comfortable and fun to drive. I love my car and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a safe and reliable vehicle.
