  • Rotor problems - 2001 Nissan Sentra
    By -

I am constantly going back because of a grinding noise when you press on the brakes. They have turned the rotors 3 times, and tell me that is is a result of driving. I have less than 45000 and it started happening at 10000. They replaced the rotors and after driving 1500 miles they are grinding again. Another person, my son switched cars with me to dispell the theory that it is my driving, Otherwise this is an excellent car. The driver side window motor constantly goes out is replaced and burns out again. The ride is a little sporty but it turns with ease. Overall I would buy another one.

  • Happy after three years - 2001 Nissan Sentra

I have had my 2001 Nissan Sentra SE for 50,000 miles and only the brakes have cost me a fortune to fix. It starts in cold winters and never has let me down. It has excellent reliability, is fun to drive and is a good car to get around in with enough options. My only complaint are the Firestone tires... I went through the original pair way to quickly and had to replace them 30,000 miles in.

  • Pleased One - 2001 Nissan Sentra

Yes, I agree, there has been numerous recalls on my Sentra but other than that, it has been in the shop quite a few times. My clutch went out at 60,000, very pricey repair!! Brakes are a frequent repleacement and it will be going on its 3rd set of tires here pretty soon. The engine has excellent power and runs well to this day with on time maintanence. Service engine soon light is on because of a cat converter being damaged by running over a construction cone. This is pricey to repai and am considering purchasing another vehicle in order to avaoid fixing this. Everything on the inside is great, except the stock stereo, the backlight went out. All around pleased with this car.

  • Great Car pound for pound - 2001 Nissan Sentra

Bought my car near new, with 18000 miles, now with nearly 70000. So far has held up great, but wear and tear is starting to take its toll. needed to change tires, brake pads, a belt and alternator so far... but not too costly overall.

  • Love My Sentra SE - 2001 Nissan Sentra

Bought my 01 Sentra with 53815 miles on it and I have had no problems whatsoever to date. The motor pulls strong and the acceleration is great from a 4 cylinder. The SR20DE motor has tons of available aftermarket performance products and the body is beautiful in black.

  • So far so good part II - 2001 Nissan Sentra

This is my 2nd review on this car. Its now going on 60k and the rear caliper needed replaced but it was due to the person/dealer never put a shim/retainer back on after doing a brake job. The paint on the front bumper has peeled off, no biggie. The Firestone tires are junk! The in-cabin filter is good but the dealers want $$$ for replacement filter. Go buy a home filter for $20 and cut 3 or 4 out of it and it will filter out x100 more stuff. The sr20de is why i bought the SE. Many have recommened this engine. The Granite color is attractive. Im getting 24mpg city and 30mpg hgwy. Its good in snow. If you want to get a Sentra find an SE! They stopped making them in 2001 so good luck!

  • Reliable - 2001 Nissan Sentra

Bought it as salvage in 2003 from flood in Texas, but no mechanical damage. Had the recall for crankshaft sensor back in 2003, but have not have any issue with this 5-speed. With 102K and with no belt to change (vehicle has timing chain) no major expense for that so it saves in this aspect. Hoping to get another 100K? with regular oil changes of course.

  • Sentras - See for Yourself - 2001 Nissan Sentra

I bought a 2001 GXE Sentra in 2001 and paid it off last year (a little early). There was one recall issue that caused the car to die, but it was fixed under warranty. Its not the quickest thing on the takeoff, but does fine on the highway and has a heavy, secure feel -- to me. I had a Corolla before that and its steering touch was so light you could run off the road in the blink of an eye. Its not the most fuel efficient car on the road, but its also one of the cheaper.

  • Fun Car - 2001 Nissan Sentra

It tends to make a "bird noise" when I start it in the morning.(mechanic says that there is nothing wrong???) I already had to replace one of the pullys, the horn, and the radio. Despite the fact my car seems to be spending most of its time with my mechanic, it drives great!

  • Biggest BANG for your BUCK - 2001 Nissan Sentra

A nice little car both in and out. Great performance for a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder, especially when compared to any Honda 4-cylinder (except the S2000).
