This Year's Model Updates:

The Sentra has been completely overhauled for the 2000 model year. A better ride, more powerful engines and a new enviro-friendly version top the bill, and we likes what we sees.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, SULEV status for CA model, 145-horsepower SE sport version
Cons:
  • Generic styling

  • Excellent Sunny Day Car - 2000 Nissan Sentra

This is a fun car to drive. Its got good get up and go. I like the styling, for a compact car. Great for driving around, when its nice outside. In bad weather or in emergencies, Im not so sure about this car. Had to stop suddenly on the freeway, the front end shook violently. Ive skidded a couple time on wet road.

  • Great Commuter Car, not for long haul - 2000 Nissan Sentra

This car is great for a daily commute in city traffic. The CD stereo (180w 7- speakers) is great to help pass the time, and the gearing is VERY forgiving in stop and go. The gas mileage for a small car leaves much to be desired. I average WELL under the suggested mpg, and I am sure that I am driving just like the average driver. In bad weather this car is VERY dangerous...handled great in snow, but in snow, rain, anything wet...when you try to stop, make sure you have a LOT of distance, or a shoulder!

Its a great option for those who are looking for a reliable, fun to drive car. Comparable to the Civic, but way cheaper! Totally worth its price.

  • good value - 2000 Nissan Sentra

Looked at Toyota, Chevy, and Mazda before deciding on Nissan. Good value for the money. Great MPG. Car comes with all basics, cd, power locks, windows, mirrors. Sentra handles nicely and is peppy for a small car. Fit and finish pretty good also.

  • High quality, sensible price - 2000 Nissan Sentra

For under $16K new, the Sentra is simply unbeatable. The car has a substantial feel that others in its price range lack. The doors close with a reassuring thud, the interior materials dont look or feel cheap, and you get lots of features for the money. Mechanically, my Sentra has been flawless--the engine is smooth and very quiet, and the transmission shifts smoothly. It has been outside for three Minnesota winters, and it starts easily morning after morning. Its no sports sedan, but few cars in this price range are. Its nice to stand out from the fleet of Civics at every shopping mall, and laugh at SUV drivers paying through the nose at the gas station. Highly recommended.

  • Great Car - 2000 Nissan Sentra

I bought this car new at the end of 2001. Because it was an XE with a 5sp manual it was still on the lot. For the first 100k it had very few problems, and they were covered under warranty. A new catalytic converter and a fuel pump were all that went wrong. The clutch lasted until 115k. Now that I have 140k on it, Ive had to replace the rack and pinon steering and needed some engine repairs for rough idling. Overall, I love this car and for the mileage it has needed few repairs.

  • Excellent value - 2000 Nissan Sentra

I bought the 2000 Sentra somewhat on a whim. It seemed like the best combination of features, reliability and fuel economy for a car in the under $14k category. I have never liked how the car looks, but I really appreciate driving it 50+ miles a day. My family had Datsuns when I was a kid that lasted and lasted, so I do trust Nissans reliability. And the 31 MPG average is great too!

  • Love this car - 2000 Nissan Sentra

This was my first new car. The choices were either the Sentra or a Civic. The new body style in 2000 is fantastic, great innovation with the engine and interior. My car has been great, very reliable with no problems. Regular maintanance only is required, excellent gas mileage. The only problem is I didnt buy one with a sunroof! I would highly recommend this spacious for a compact, affordable, reliable car with a smooth ride.

  • My little charcoal GXE - 2000 Nissan Sentra
    By -

I needed a car in a hurry when my eight-year old Mazda blew up, so I looked at everything available. I found a really great clearance deal on a 2000 GXE, compared power/ weight/price ratios with Mazda, Toyota, and Honda, and bought bought the Nissan. Once I got used to the someone wimpy 5-speed shifter, I fell in love with the car.

  • Ok car...but many problems - 2000 Nissan Sentra
    By -

I bought this car new! Two weeks later the front wheel bearing and struts started to make noise. It took the dealership 4 times over a two year period to access the problem. I found a better mechanic who fixed the problem. Fast forward 6 years and 100k miles later my check engine light is on due to the catalytic converter and my speedometer goes out on long trips. I will never buy the first model redesign that comes out again without reviewing the ratings. Overall the car is reliable but the STRUTS need to be better. You get what you pay for in an economy car.
