This Year's Model Updates:

All Altimas receives exterior styling enhancements, including new smoked headlamps and taillights, new wheel designs and a restyled front fascia and grille, along with a much needed interior redesign. The 3.5-liter V6 gets five more horsepower and three more lb-ft of torque, for a total of 250 and 249, respectively, and is now available with a five-speed automatic transmission. A new performance-oriented SE-R model joins the lineup along with a leather-lined 3.5 SL model. A newly optional DVD-based navigation system and two new exterior colors round out the changes.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, excellent handling, roomy and comfortable interior, high level of features, distinctive styling.
Cons:
  • Considerable road noise, overboosted steering, no stability control, ABS still an extra-cost option.

We drove 18 vehicles in our buying process and the Altima stood out front far byond the others. (many which were priced 3 to 5 thousand more. After driving the 4 cylinder then the 6 there was no doubt that the xtra hp was worth the money. however those on a tighter budget should not let that scare you because the 4 banger has all the pep that most would need. We wound up getting one with everything (including the Nissan after market option pkg.) The only things that I find so far that could be improved on is the radio display is difficult to read as well as the odometer computer functions for mpg, dte, mte and so on. Also the turnning radis is tight.

This my second Nissan Altima. The first one I owned was a 2003 Nissan Altima and I had about 5 or 6 discrepencies in the auto, plus a replaced engine (frozen crankshaft) at 10,800 miles. The 2004 had to have a replaced fuel pump at 3,000 miles. To date (18,000 miles), I have no complaints. Performance Good+

tupperware car - beautiful to look at but build quality and materials are junk. it has been in the shop more times than i can count with a less than helpful dealership(stealership). had problems starting, ABS light came on for no reason, crank position sensor went, bouncy ride/rear shocks lack rebound damping, intermittent buzzing from under dash area, turn signals stop clicking, lots of rattles etc. Stay away from this one and buy a camry or accord.

Approx. 2500 mi. driven on a 2005 SE-R bought used, mixed higway and city. This is a car that begs to be driven hard: self restraint is sometimes difficult to exercise. Performance is exciting, even if not exhilarating, much more than enough for the daily grind--you can have some serious fun on occasions. The car strikes a good balance between comfort and performance; but sure it is not a floaty luxury cruiser. Nobody complained about it, however, on an 800-mi highway ride with 4 adults. Creature comforts are OK, fairly simple except for the fancy bose sound and the leather seats that smell so nice. Overall, I got 25-26 mpg paying some attention to my driving, with some fun at times.

A nice car but the brakes on the 3.5L series are lacking.I have constantly had problems with the brakes since I hit 30,000 miles and they are under warranty. They have been fixed twice and a problem still is there. The dealer said they would fix it but they work for @ 2 weeks and the same old sound and feel come back.

Altima is only two weeks old today. So far its been fun to drive. Gives you a sense of a muscle car with elegance. Solid built, sturdy and comfortable.

  • Lower cost to own and fun to drive - 2005 Nissan Altima

I bought an Altima 2.5 with SL package after comparing the Accord and Mazda6. Insurance rates was a factor that made the choice for me. Quotes for the Altima were way lower than the other two cars. Although there are features that the Altima lacks compared with the Mazda 6 (Traction Control, Dual exhaust ports, sport shift mode), the bigger cabin space of the Altima, outweighs this. Compared with the Accord, I find the Altima a better bang for the buck even if the Accord has a 5 speed AT. 175 HP engine speaks well of itself. The car just goes when I step on the gas pedal. Sometimes too much that I often exceed road speed limits.

I love this car because although I dont have a family or a lot of people in my car always, the space is always there when you need it. and even though you might have guests in your car, the space is still there. It is a great car to travel in. You dont have to worry about being uncomfortable on a long trip. Im only 23 and its my first new car, and so far I love it!!!

I like the handling of the car. I was able to get a really good deal on the SL b/c of the end of the year. The stereo sound system isnt as impressive as I thought. I like the daytime running light feature (but I recommend NOT using the Automatic Daytime Lights b/c of over usage). Those bulbs become very costly & are not covered in basic or extended warranty.
