This Year's Model Updates:

All Altimas receives exterior styling enhancements, including new smoked headlamps and taillights, new wheel designs and a restyled front fascia and grille, along with a much needed interior redesign. The 3.5-liter V6 gets five more horsepower and three more lb-ft of torque, for a total of 250 and 249, respectively, and is now available with a five-speed automatic transmission. A new performance-oriented SE-R model joins the lineup along with a leather-lined 3.5 SL model. A newly optional DVD-based navigation system and two new exterior colors round out the changes.

Pros:
  • Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, excellent handling, roomy and comfortable interior, high level of features, distinctive styling.
Cons:
  • Considerable road noise, overboosted steering, no stability control, ABS still an extra-cost option.

  • Am I the only one with this problem? - 2005 Nissan Altima

The car was great for the first 30,000 miles. Yes the engine is noisy but bearable. Before the 30k I was getting around 410 miles per tank of gas. Then I noticed I was only getting 270 miles to the tank! I have been riding with this terrible fuel economy for 10,000 miles now. I filed a complaint with Nissan Corp. right after I noticed this downfall and they still havent helped me. Unfortunately the warranty ended when it hit 36,000 miles so they say nothing can be done about it now even though I filed it before the warranty was up. The car has been a nightmare ever since this happened and now recently the gas light stays on even when I fill up the tank.

I TRULY WANTED THE 6 CYL 250 HP, BUT DID NOT WANT TO SPEND THE EXTRA 4,000.00. WHAT A SUPRISE AT THE POWER OF THE 175HP 4 CYL.THIS CAR IS FUN TO DRIVE. I KNOW IT IS THE BEST LOOKING CAR IN ITS CLASS. THE INTERIOR IS VERY ROOMY,THE TRUNK IS LARGE. CRUISING AT 100 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE DID NOT BRING ANY VIBRATIONS,VERY SMOOTH RIDE.

I love love love this car. I bought it new in 2005 and have almost 92000 on it now. The 3.5 with a 5spd is a rocket ship. Love to pull up next to sport coupes and blow there door off. I have only had to change the breaks and put new tires on it. It has been to the shop twice for repair work. Once for a rear suspension recall and once to replace something in the steering system which had rusted out. Over all would buy another except for the fact that you can no longer get a v6 stick shift sedan anymore. Only wish the car had come with abs and side airbags. Might actually trade it in for a mazda.

This is my second Altima and i love it more than any other car that Ive ever owned. It combines everyday drivability along with excellent performance! Plus, it wont break the bank.

  • Great car, very minor annoyances - 2005 Nissan Altima

Was surprised with the power from the 2.5L 4banger. Went from an old 4.9L Cadillac to the Altima and am not disappointed, even with slight drop in pick-up. It is comfortable and stylish without a giant pricetag. Leasing option was cheap! Car has some very minor issues with comfort and accessories, but has been great mechanically and the ride is pretty smooth.

  • Aggressive Styling - 2005 Nissan Altima

I knew I was going to get an Altima but didnt quite know which model. Cost was a major concern so I initially wanted the 2.5 with sports package. After some thinking I decided to go with the 3.5 SE because who can so no to 250 horses? I thought the SE-R was out of my price range but its awesome test drive and aggressive looks begged to differ. After more consideration I chose the SE- R. I figured it was worth the extra dollars a month to get a vehicle that has all that you want with a truly UNIQUE look.

I love this car! I really made the right choice. Its classy w/out being too pricy, and with this new gas gouging that were going thorugh Im relieved to know that my car gets abou 28 MPG on the freeway. I have a fear of cars breaking down, and Im so happy to say that Ive never had a problem with my car, its an absolute dream.

  • 2005 Altima not as good as they say - 2005 Nissan Altima

The car is fast for a 4 cyl but the AC compressor comes on when you press the fan button to recirculate which kills the performance a little and greatly affects gas mileage negatively. Nissan does not see it as a problem even though you cant shut the AC compressor off unless you shut off the ignition. The AC vents not well designed have limited adjustments. The floor boards are very weak and rattle at times. The chrome shift-plate tends to shine the sun in your face. The stock radio is very cheap and has poor reception. The front nose is hard to see when parking. Fun to drive but Nissan saved a lot on cutting corner. Poor gas milage but a cute car your choice to buy.

This car is a blast to drive. Handles like a small car but with lots of space. Leather seats are comfortable. Four cylinder provides plenty of power for me. Receiver works well. I love this car.

  • Fun but could be so much better... - 2005 Nissan Altima

A truly fun car to drive, however, there is considerable oversteer and the roadhandling is not all that great but the acceleration does put a smile on ones face. Interior cabin noise is fairly intrusive. The overall interior fit and finish is done well with some minor exceptions. The faux wood trim is -quite frankly - a little cheesy - choose the faux chrome, it looks better. All that being said - it is probably more fun to drive than its older sibling, the Maxima and several of its more conservatively styled competitors.
