This Year's Model Updates:

All-wheel drive comes to the Mercedes' E-Class lineup via the E320 sedan and all-new E320 wagon. Like the rest of Mercedes' model lineup, E-Class cars formerly powered by an inline-six engine now receive a more fuel-efficient V6 unit that is also supposed to improve the cars' low-end response. The 1998 E-Class cars receive the benefit of BabySmart airbags which are able to detect the presence of a Mercedes' car seat in the front passenger seat and disable the front passenger airbag. BrakeAssist is also a new feature, which aids drivers' stopping distance in a panic-stop situation.

Pros:
  • Attractive, sporty, and refined, the E-Class cars are some of our favorites. Excellent fuel economy. Decent acceleration.

Reliable, comfortable, safe and manuverable. I have driven in every road condition and find I am as rested after a 3 hour drive as I would have been had I been a passenger.

Unbeleivable that this car can have something go wrong every six months like clock work. I drove my Lexus for over 125000 miles with one repair (air) In 84000 miles I have had to replace both rear window motors, engine sensors twice, air fan unit, and a oil seal--a friend told me he carries oil in his trunk. I wont make this mistake again.

I love the car. Problems have been with normal service at particular dealers. Some dealers are so much better than others. Dont buy a diesel that isnt a turbo. 8.3 seconds 0 to 6 is not a bad time for a diesel.

  • ONE OF A KIND LUXURY CAR - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I have only had my 1998 MB E320 wagon for 3 years. I have to upgrade in size due to the upgrade in size of my family but I really dont want this car to go. Its been super reliable, easy on the wallet at the pump, and has never lacked in fun factor. My kids even love the car! If anyone is ever in the market for a good used road trip car, this is it!

I purchased this car sight un seen or test drove it, because it was an incredible deal. I had it shiped from Dallas to NJ and auto Transporters .com did as promised. the car is driving great and has plenty of power and room and I have achieved 36 mpg although I am getting 32.5 avg. When i first got it i was getting 27 to 29 because of a bad tire, and transmission was low on fluids and leaking. once i fixd the tire and had a tranny service done leak stoped and Mpg jumped up to 32.5 mpg. I had an e430 with heated and leather seats this car does not but i have dogs and the MBTEX is better for me. As of now all is in working order i have put 4000.00 miles on it.

  • Worth the Price - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

We were lucky to find an off-lease E320S4 w/just 17K miles. Watch fuel capacity: its 18.1 INCLUDING reserve. Owners manual appears ambiguous re 2.4 g "reserve". A sporty ride, disguised as a family wagon.

  • Didnt miss my Passat for long! - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Never have felt so secure on the road. Bought it when my daughter started school in next county.Great on highway. Yeah, cupholder is actually a better cell phone holder, but Ill deal! Bought it used with 29000 miles on it, saved a bunch over new and it still feels like new.

  • Terribly Unreliable - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

never ever in my life would i have thought to recieve such a TERRIBLE car. 1 month after owning it, the headlights wont turn off. then the battery died. seeing as im in high school i was ok with it sitting for a day or two. but once i bought a new battery none of the electric component were working. (radio, speedometer, gas gauge, windows, door locks) i bought the car at 139k
